ART!!! thats right! those are the only 3 letters appropriate to describe this place. Sketch cafe and restaurant is a huge work of art and i mean it literally. It is a brand new spot located in what is now the most innovative District in the city of Abuja – Art Tech district at No. 7 Hombori Street, Wuse 2 Opp Best Premier Hotel Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria.
Prior to the launch of Sketch 2d/3d restaurant, i had always dreamed of visiting a restaurant just like this! It was part of my restaurant bucket list (glad thats out of the way now…lol). When i heard of something like this in the works i really couldn’t contain my excitement and i promised to be one of the first people to visit and I’m glad i was. I made history guys!! hehehe. Anyway i was so happy that the Sketch cafe and restaurant did not disappoint in any way. Scroll to read all the amazing things that went down at Sketch!
Sketch me!
This has to be one of the coolest things about Sketch. When you visit the restaurant, you have a chance to get a picture of you taken and printed out in 2d/3d. After that, you are given color pencils to bring your image to life with the colors you like while you wait for your meal. I absolutely loved it and i’m definitely going to frame my pictures.

Ambience
Sketch has an artistic and classy ambience. Walking into to the restaurant feels like you’re walking into a huge coloring book. The white and black 2d/3d walls make the entire space feel unreal which kind of messes with your head. They made a very good choice of furniture and also dining ware, because everything blends well into the background including the air conditioner surprisingly. The restaurant also features a rooftop dining spot which shares the same concept as the indoor space. It has a mini bar for drinks and is also convenient for those who would like to take a smoke. The outdoor space is more suitable at night because it light up different and there’s cool, enjoyable breeze. The restaurant has a small bathroom, which is not very impressive, it is just convenient. This is actually something i have noticed with all Art tech district restaurants.

Menu
The cafe/restaurant menu offers quite a range of food and drinks. They have sweet and savory food options as well as cold and hot drinks. They also have some smoothies and fruit juice options. The food prices are sort of expensive, i think it borders between budget-tight and expensive, but really, can you put a price on fine dining? I would say a budget of N15,000 for one person would be sufficient.

Food & Drinks
We had quite colorful dishes served. We had ; Passion fruit cake with custard, Red velvet and vanilla cake with strawberry sauce, Beet chicken salad, Crispy squid and 3-tango drink. I got to try out the Mexican salsa shrimp salad, Passion fruit cake with custard and the 3-tango drink.
The Mexican salsa shrimp salad costs NGN7,500 – The salad was quite unique and very very rich. I have never actually had something like it before. It was a combination of Kidney beans, sweet corn, bell peppers, kale and shrimp. When i tasted the salad at first i thought it was nice, but at the end the bitter taste of the kale took over and you will almost regret eating it. Subsequently, the salad flavors will grow and you and the bitter after taste disappears and you’ll honestly love it if you like salads like me. The major stunner of the Mexican salsa salad is the avocado dressing. It was incredible and it made the salad stand out for me. To be honest though, I think the portion of the salad is quite small for the price even though it is quite filling.
The Passion fruit cake had me confused a bit. When it was served i honestly thought it was lemon cake and the taste didn’t make it easier to tell because the cream on the side was lemon flavored. The cake was nice, it tasted like a regular vanilla sponge cake with a passion fruit glaze. Although it was a spongey kind of cake, it tasted a bit dry. It seemed like the cake was ripped of its moisture. I spoke to the chef about it and she said it was probably because the cake was taken from the counter display. One thing that really impressed me was the custard that was served with the cake, i really liked it.

Drink
The 3-tango drink is a combination of orange juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, sprite and a simple syrup. I loved the layers of colors the drink had, it was very appealing to the eyes and the taste didn’t disappoint. All the juices really blended in well and gave a unique taste which left me wanting more. The drink costs NGN3,500.

General review
I LOOOOOVEEEEEE Sketch a whole lot! I think the 2d/3d concept is totally amazing and it is very daring to try and recreate something so lovely here in Nigeria. They definitely nailed it with the space. The real MVP however in all of this is the artist. I do not know who is responsible for the execution but the person(s) did a fantastic job and I’m really proud we have such talent here in Nigeria. In terms of service and food, i think they can do better. I’ve experienced the different restaurants at the art tech district multiple times and their food and service are very top notch. I feel like the sketch restaurant and cafe is yet to get there, but they are on the way. Their food and service still has some stabilizing to do as at the time i visited but I have no doubt in my heart that the next time i visit, it would be perfect!
