Uncle T’s Diner is one of the blazing new spots in the city of Abuja. It was launched in August 2021. I actually anticipated it’s opening and was invited to the launch party but i couldn’t make it unfortunately. After missing the grand launching, i made a promise to visit soon and i guess ‘soon’ was January 2022. Of course i had to make it special and celebrate my birthday there because of the beautiful ambience and mouth watering menu options.
Uncle T’s Diner is located at 51 Alex Ekwueme Way, Jabi. Abuja, Nigeria. I had a splendid time and i’m excited for you to read all about it!
Ambience
The ambience is lovely both on the inside and outside. It is very spacious, unlike the box sized spaces we are used to in Abuja (especially Wuse 2). There is enough space inside and outside, with quite a number of sitting options. Walking through the gate you are welcomed by an outdoor sitting area shaded with beautiful, tall palm trees. Amidst the sitting area is an outdoor bar/grill which seemed to come alive in the evenings or night time. The outdoor space is suitable for smoking, hanging out, events, grills and more.
Approaching the indoor space, there’s a nice usher to help you navigate the place. The indoor space is dark themed with neon signs and warm toned lights to go with it. The space is quite artistic and give off a relaxed high class but casual vibe.
I must definitely commend their beautiful bathroom, It is indeed a stunner. An additional thing to note about Uncle T’s diner is the inadequate parking space. I mean, there is a place to park but I’m not really sure it is designated for the restaurant or even very safe. It just looked like someone’ s Undeveloped property which just happens to make a Convenient parking space at that moment.

The menu
The restaurant menu is perfect to me. It is not too much and it is not too small. the menu options are just adequate. As expected, they have different meal courses with a variety of options. The price range is in between budget friendly and expensive. Depending on what your income is.

The food
We had Sliders to kick off our dining experience and Afterwards we ordered creamy prawn linguine, mongolian chicken and bombay chicken. we didn’t order any desserts because we already had cake (thanks to @wakagirlng who baked me one of the most delicious chocolate cakes i have ever had).
Sliders – NGN4,000
For those who do do not already know, a slider is a mini burger. Same burger ingredients, same fire taste but in mini sizes. It serves as a great starter. The sliders were 3, each packed with the-same ingredients and deliciousness. It was honestly the most tasty thing i ordered of the menu. The cutest thing about the sliders was that each burger bun was marked with the name Uncle T’s. I normally do not enjoy pickles in my burgers but i definitely enjoyed this one because all the ingredients were balanced and the pickle literally enhanced the taste of the sliders. The bun & patty were perfect! Now the wow factor about these sliders were the fact that it has Mango in it! (well i’m not entirely sure how accurate this is) but i could almost swear there was a sweet mango flare in those sliders and they made it even better!
Creamy Prawn Linguini – NGN8,000
I’m usually a penne Alfredo regular but i decided to tilt away from the usual and order creamy linguine. The serving portion of the past was a lot honestly. It was clearly tastefully made and nicely plated. You could instantly tell from the first bite that it was carefully prepared with the best ingredients. The pasta was great! Although it could have used a little more prawns.
Mongolian chicken – NGN7,000
The Mongolian chicken was made of caramelized chicken cubes mixed with sweet Asian sauce and served with steamed Basmati white rice. Now i know it says in the meal description that it is sweet but i might have underestimated the sweetness because it ended up being a little too sweet for me. It tasted like white rice and sugar, I’m not even gonna lie, the Nigerian girl in me was not having it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the dish, it was tastefully made, quality ingredients, nice serving, but not for me. I would have definitely preferred ordering something more accustomed to my taste buds, but i did enjoy trying something different.
Bombay chicken – N6,500
The Bombay chicken was a serving of grilled boneless chicken, marinated in oriental spices, topped with Bombay sauce, served with a side of Basmati rice. I always enjoy boneless chicken with rice and this wasn’t any different. My Bombay chicken experience was similar to that of the Mongolian chicken. It was tastefully made, quality ingredients, nice serving, but not entirely for me. On a different day, i would have absolutely fallen in love with it because it tasted nice. But i guess that wasn’t what my taste buds were searching for at that moment. The chicken was tender but not overcooked, it went really well with the rice. The Bombay chicken sauce was a bit sour, it tasted like mayonnaise and a whole lotta lemon.

Drinks
For drinks we had Virgin Mojito, Oreo milkshake and water.
Virgin Mojito – NGN2,000
The virgin mojito was great, truly one of the best i’ve had. I loved it and it was quite cheap.
Oreo milkshake – NGN2,000
The Oreo milkshake was rich and creamy. It also had actual Oreo’s in it (long story). It wasn’t like the bad excuse of a milkshake some restaurants normally serve. It definitely makes it to my top Milkshake list.
Mineral water – NGN500

Total bill – NGN34,750 (including 7.5% VAT and 5% service charge)
General review
Uncle T’s diner has to be one of my favourite new places right now. They won me over with amazing customer service and quality food. Their staff are very friendly, attentive and well trained. They have one of the best customer services, right after Art Tech District. The space is lovely, it is obvious that their chefs are well trained. I love the attention to detail in every aspect of their ambience, food and service. The definitely did their research before launching and that is what i love to see. I look forward to visiting again, hopefully next time i would get to try out the cookie in the pan dessert. I have heard so many great things.
Do not hesitate to share your own experience if you visit.
