VII(SEVEN) Bistro Restaurant & Bar, Abuja.

VII (Seven) Bistro Restaurant and Bar is another Old but Gold spot in Abuja. It has been around for quite a while and i have heard so much about it but i had my first visit just recently. It is located at No 7 Kampala street Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria.
The restaurant and bar is very cozy and has such a cool/chill vibe. With a very fun and rustic Interior, seven bistro instantly stole my heart. Read all about it below;

Ambience

The restaurant ambience is really nice. They have an indoor space and an outdoor space. I love how they have neon signs with cute write ups. The outdoor space is a rooftop setting but it’s enclosed and also beautifully decorated. it has a nice view and it’s more private and secluded. There’s a mini bar uptstairs and also a restroom for convinence.

I love both spaces so much. The space has a relaxing and fun vibe. It’s a very good hangout spot with friends.

The Menu

The restaurant Menu is loaded with a number of food and drink options. It features Some local and international dishes covering breakfast, lunch and dinner options. They also have alcoholic and non alcoholic drink options. The menu pricing is affordable and can fit a budget of N10,000 for two.

Check out @sevenbistrong on Instagram to see the full menu.

Food & Drink

We ordered the red pepper pasta, owambe meal, virgin colada and water. Before our food and drink arrived, we were served complimentary potato chips and salsa. The potato chips were really crispy and it tasted so good with the salsa.

Red pepper pasta – N5,270

My friend Yasmin ordered the red pepper pasta and it looked really good even before we tasted it. It was hot, steamy Linguine pasta made in creamy pepper sauce and served with gizzard. I like that they used gizzard instead instead of chicken or seafood as usual. The pasta was really delicious and i totally wished i had ordered it.

Owambe – N6,800

The owambe meal was a combo meal. It was made up of beef suya, jollof rice, fried plantain and coleslaw. I enjoyed everything on my plate except the jollof rice. The jollof rice was nice and seemed tasty but it was dry and did not seem fresh. It seemed like it was made a day before and microwaved to be served. The beef suya was tasty and skillfully made.

Virgin colada – N3,500

The virgin colada is a pineapple juice, simple syrup and coconut cream mocktail combo. It tasted like a natural fruit juice, it wasn’t too sweet and it wasn’t bland either. The drink was nice but i didn’t really enjoy it because it’s just not my kind of drink.

General Review

VII Bistro is a very great spot for hanging out with friends, a Casual date or even a solo date. It is very budget friendly and their service was very fast and efficient. I look forward to visiting again soon for a chill day with my friends.

Chopped Bistro, Wuse Abuja.

I’m back again to plug you to another amazing spot because it’s back to back content season. Chopped Bistro has been on my list for so long, i’m so glad I got to check it out and I’m going to be sharing the details with you.
Funny story yeah, I found out about chopped bistro when they started following me on instagram. At first I thought it was a scam page because the food looked too good to be true and I had never heard of the place before. I subsequently followed up on their activities and realised it was a real place and their page wasn’t at all a scam. That was when I added it to my checklist.

My sister’s birthday came and I couldn’t think of a better place to wine and dine with my family. Chopped Bistro is located at No. 170 Ademola Adetokumbo crescent, opposite Peniel apartments Wuse 2, Abuja. My family and I had a splendid time. Check out the details below.

Ambience

The restaurant features a mini outdoor space as well as an indoor space. The restaurant design is subtle and quite accommodating. I love how the space is welcoming but not doing too much. Theres a floral decorated mirror at the entrance which welcomes you and is great for selfies.

The space is calm and has glass windows which gives you a view of the road. The outdoor space is quite small and suitable for a very casual or brief meeting. The indoor space on the other hand is medium sized and can fit about 20-25 people at once. The restaurant also has a single bathroom for convenience.

Menu

I love love how Nigerian the menu is. The menu features mostly Nigerian dishes, with a touch of some intercontinental dishes. The items on the menu are not over priced and it’s evident that the meals and recipes were uniquely and carefully curated.

Food

Phewww!!!! we definitely had a lot of good food and every bit of it was worth it. We ordered chicken wings for starters and later on had individual meals. Together we ordered chopped jollof rice with peppered chicken, Bistro style Pasta, Chopped special Rice with chicken in brown sauce, plantain flour and Egusi soup with chicken.

STARTER

Chicken wings (10pcs) – N3,000

The chicken wings were super affordable, one of the most affordable I’ve ever purchased. The wings were 10 pieces for just N3,000. It was very spicy, juicy and worth every bite.

Chopped special Rice with chicken in brown sauce – N6,000

The chopped special rice cost N2,000 and the chicken in brown sauce cost N4,000.

The chopped special rice is everything! I have never had rice so good, at that quality, in such a large portion at that price ever. It came as a very big shock to me. I could not believe my eyes at all. The rice as tasty and very colourful. I absolutely loved it.

At first I was a bit disappointed about the chicken in brown sauce because I expected it to come in a hot plate but it didn’t. When I set my eyes on it, my perspective immediately changed. It looked so colourful and tastefully made, I immediately wanted to shove the whole plate in my throat. But I didn’t though (pictures first…lol). It was a combo of chicken pieces in broth and mixed vegetables. It tasted so good and it made an excellent pairing with the chopped special rice.

Plantain flour with Egusi & Chicken – N4,600

All my swallow lovers need to get in here because you’re going to wanna try this soon. It was my first time tasting plantain flour and it actually wasn’t that bad. It just masted like brown semo really. The sup on the other hand shocked me once again. It was such a large portion of soup, suitable to eat 3 wraps of swallow.

The soup cost N4,000 for a bowl and a wrap of plantain flour was N600. The soup had many components and you can obviously tell it was ice in nature. It had chicken, ponmo and dried fish as proteins in it. It was lovely and we had to take home the rest of it.

Chopped Jollof Rice & Peppered chicken – N4,500

The chopped Jollof rice cost N2,000 while the peppered chicken cost N2,500. Once again the PORTION guys! Its crazy how they sell this much rice at N2,000 and it tastes so good.

The chopped Jollof rice had some chicken bits in it and I swear to God I have never had basmati rice tasting like firewood party Jollof until I tried out this one. It was amazing! The rice hit the right Nigerian Jollof notes.

The peppered chicken was nice and tasty but it wasn’t juicy and tasty all the way to the inside. I feel like if it was marinated longer, it would have tasted much better.

Bistro style Pasta – N4,500

The birthday girl ordered the bistro style pasta so I didn’t really have much of it. You have n option to choose either penne or spaghetti, It has some mixed veggies, chicken bits and sausages. The pasta wasn’t overcooked and it also wasn’t dry. It was a bit moist. It tasted really good and my sister cleared her plate.

Drinks

We had several beverages and water of course but only one Mocktail. I Ordered the Berry Delight for N2,500 and it was a big disappointment. Before ordering it, I asked the waiter what it was made up of so I would know what I was getting into and he told me it was a combination of 5alive berry blast, sugar syrup, lemon juice and Grenadine. What I was served was 5alive berry blast, ice and sugar topped with a piece of grape. The only thing nice about the drink was the grape. They used granulated sugar instead of sugar syrup and if you look into this image closely you can see the sugar settled at the bottom.

Anytime I take a sip, I can feel the sugar particles in my mouth and I was utterly disappointed. I wished I ordered a pack of 5alive instead.

Hugs and Mugs cafe/restaurant Abuja.

Hello dearest reader, Welcome to today’s episode of Abuja’s hidden gems. Today is definitely your lucky day because you get to experience something different & something new!

Hugs and mugs cafe/restaurant is an incredible hidden gem i recently found in the city. Interestingly, it is in plain sight but no one ever really notices it. It is located at 134 Adetokunbo Ademola crescent wuse two Abuja, Nigeria which is in the same compound with Bakan Gizo supermarket which I’m sure you may have cone across a few times.

The hugs and mugs space is unique, interesting and cozy. Now i’m sure you may be wondering, what’s the food like? what’s the menu like? Well, that’s why you’re here. Scroll down to find out!

Ambience

The restaurant space is quite small but in no way distasteful. The space was effectively utilized and beautifully decorated so you would not really feel like the space is that small.
It is one of the most beautifully decorated small spaces i’ve seen recently. The colors used in the decor are quite earthy and nice. The restaurant is not very popular, as such it was not full when we went so we had a peaceful and quiet dinning experience.

The restaurant is neat and the staff are warm and welcoming. I Loved how there were so many mirrors incorporated in the decor. The restaurant has different sitting areas that can fit about 20 people and a cute little restroom for Convinence.

Picture Perfect!

The restaurant space is super cute and we were lucky enough to be there at golden hour so my sister and i took advantage of that to take some awesome pictures.
The pictures came out really great so i had to attach it to this post.

The menu

The restaurant menu really took me by surprise. I initially expected it to be a few pastries and food options but they had way more than that!

The menu featured breakfast options, starters, main dishes, desserts, pastries, cocktails, mocktails, fresh juices, coffee, wines and so much more. The best part of it was that everything was super affordable.

It basically gives you a refined dining experience at good rates. I love it!

Food & drinks

The menu offered quite a lot of options so it took a while for us to decide because we both didn’t want heavy meals. After a long time deciding, we finally settled for the HNM express noodles and eggs, cappuccino, grilled turkey with a side of mashed potatoes and a glass of fresh orange juice.

HNM express noodles and eggs- N2,500

The Express noodles was basically indomie or so we thought. Well i mean it was still indomie but with an international passport. We all know indomie is a very simple but unique meal, in the sense that everyone makes it differently. Its quite hard for someone to make noodles for you that you will enjoy because everyone has their own noodle style. This was different. From the plating i knew this had to be something good!

The noodles were freshly made and served steaming hot. It was stir fried with different vegetables and sausages. Believe me when i say it was made to perfection! It was very rich, tasty and a bit moist just how i like it.

Cappuccino – N1,500

Who doesn’t love a good cup of coffee? I know i do! The cappuccino was made fresh in our presence so we got to witness the magic happen. I mean, you can never get enough of watching a beautiful cup of coffee being made.

The coffee was great! It came with some cubes of sugar incase you needed some additional sweetness and they also drizzled some caramel on it after it was ready. It was definitely worth the price.

Grilled turkey & Mashed potatoes – N4,600

The grilled turkey was fresh off the grill and it was covered in a unique & delicious sauce. The turkey was juicy and tender i couldn’t stop myself after the first bite. I devoured it to the last bit.
I opted to pair it with mashed potatoes because it has been a while i had it and it turned out to be the best decision ever!
The mashed potato dish was soft, creamy and had a luscious taste to it. It was Wonderful!

Once again, the plating was totally beautiful.

Fresh orange juice – N1,800

Fresh orange juice, but make it fancy! Thats exactly what i was served. I loved that the juice was freshly squeezed, so it had a little zesty taste to it. The orange juice also had some pulp it which was nice and made it evident that it wasn’t some packed juice turned into a cup. The juice portion was great for the price and it was served so beautifully i almost didn’t want to sip it.

General Review

Hugs and Mugs restaurant/cafe is mostly definitely a spot worthy of being checked out. It is definitely in my top 10 list of cute small places with good food and awesome service.

The ambience is great, their service is impeccable and their meals will leave you wanting more. I had a splendid experience and i look forward to visiting again real soon.

Dodo Pizza Abuja

The weekend is here and I’ve got a plug worthy of your time! In my last blog post I served you all with sugar, spice and everything nice. This time around I’ll be dishing out hot & cheesy deliciousness.

Dodo pizza is an awesome new pizzeria that just launched in Abuja. They have been operating in Lagos for quite some time now and they finally decided to give us a taste of their pizza goodness. The Pizzeria officially launched on the 28th of May 2022 at Gateway Novare Mall, Lugbe Abuja. The opening came with a bang and I was there to witness all of it while trying out their classic as well as new pizza flavours.

Read all about Abuja’s latest pizzeria below ;

Ambience

The pizzeria has 2 entrances, one which is accessible without entering the mall and the other accessible inside the mall. The entrance inside the mall leads faster to the counter where you can place your orders and the second entrance gives you access to see the kitchen where all the magic happens which is pretty cool. I had the chance of witnessing some behind the scenes action and it was incredible. The space is thoughtfully planed which makes it very accommodating for quite a number of people.

It is decorated with the dodo’s pizza signature orange colour which makes the space really pop out. The colours used in decorating the space really gives a playful and chill vibe that makes you relax. I mean its pizza! it’s meant to be full of vibe. The sitting areas are quite convenient and are well equipped with adequate lighting and sockets so you can plug your gadgets and do some work or just have a good time.

The space is very convenient for a casual date with friends, co-workers, lovers and family.

Menu

SO MANY OPTIONS!!! That’s what comes to mind when you set your eyes on the Dodo’s pizza menu. They have quite the variety of pizza options as well as drinks and other snack options. Their pizza flavours are very unique and Nigeria friendly. I love how the menu gives you a lot of options and is also very affordable as such you can visit even if you’re on a low budget. The menu gives more than just pizza options, the have some desserts, sides and drinks.

Here’s where it gets very interesting! You can order in person at the store or you can do so via their mobile app which offers you a free pizza on your first order. Cool right? Well, it gets better! For every app order you get ‘Dodo coins’ which you can save up and exchange for pizza or other food items on their menu. How amazing! You get tasty pizza at an affordable rate and you also get to save up some money. I LOVE IT!!

Pizza!!!

For the scrumpdillyumptious part you’ve all been waiting for, the Pizza! Like I said earlier they have a variety of pizza options which comes in 3 different sizes. I tried out the medium dodo supreme pizza

The Dodo supreme pizza is a combo of mozzarella, tomato, spicy chicken, spicy beef, onions, sweet chilli sauce, bell peppers and interestingly, PLANTAIN (DODO). It was literally my first time ever having plantain on a pizza. It was both exciting and strange. The pizza crust was not so thick which made the pizza ingredients really enjoyable. The plantain on the pizza gave it a very unique flair. At every bite, you enjoy sweet and savoury flavours at once. The pizza was really delicious, my only regret is that I didn’t eat it hot.

On the side, I also got to try their cinnamon rolls and cheese rolls. The cinnamon rolls were really delectable, they were tiny bits of sweet deliciousness. The cheese rolls were something else, it was like mini sausage rolls with cheese in every bit and it was absolutely tasty. I still want more!

General Review

Dodo’s pizza is really bringing some redefined tastes and flavours to the city of Abuja. I am really looking forward to trying out all their pizza flavours so I can have the entire dodo experience in my tummy.

If you’ve ever tried out dodo’s pizza in Abuja, drop a comment. I would like to know about your dodo experience.

Scoop’d Ice cream bar Now in Abuja!

Fellow ice cream lovers and soon to be ice cream lovers, Welcome to the best news you will come across on the internet today. A new ice cream bar!

Scoop’d is a new but not so new ice cream spot. New because it is the first branch in the city of Abuja and not so new because it has been open in Lagos for quite some time now. They recently launched their first ever branch on 28th May 2022. and of course you know I had to be there to witness deliciousness on our behalves.

It is located at Gateway Novare Mall, Lugbe Abuja. The opening was all shades of fun and delicious. Scroll down if you wanna drool!

Ambience

The ice cream bar is located in the inside the mall which is accessible through the main door or through Dodo’s pizza. It is a small and cute space which is quite expected from most ice cream bars. There are a few chairs for customers to sit and enjoy their ice cream and meals. It is not suitable for a lot of people so take out is more advisable if you’d like to enjoy a private time.

It is a great place for a quick/casual date and is also very kids friendly.

The Menu

Scoop’d menu is actually quite impressive. I did not expect them to have so much varieties of edibles. My initial thought was that they would be selling ice cream only but that wasn’t the case. They have more than just ice cream! They have quite the variety of pastries, desserts, burgers, wraps and so much more. The menu pricing is also very affordable. A scoop of ice cream goes for N900 which is one of the cheapest in the city right now. They also have different cup serving sizes for different tastes. It can easily fit a N3,000 budget for one.

Ice cream

I think by now my ice cream flavours are already predictable. Well the reason is that whenever I try a new ice cream place I love to try flavours i’m familiar with so I can easily tell if it’s good or bad.

I tried the snickerlicious and absolute chocolate flavours. The sickerlicious flavour was quite interesting because it had nuts in it, like the snickers chocolate even though it didn’t taste exactly like snickers it was very nice. It was almost like cookies and cream + nuts. The absolute chocolate was also nice but I felt like it could be a little more chocolatey.

Food and drinks

I got to try out other items from the menu like the strawberry milkshake, burger meal and the double cheese mushroom toastie.

Burger meal (Scoop’d Burger) – N2,300

The burger was served with a portion of chips, ketchup dip and a soft drink. The burger was made-up of chicken, BBQ sauce, pickles, tomato, mozzarella cheese and lettuce. At first the burger didn’t seem like a lot but after a bite you would fall in love with it’s taste. The bun was very tender and soft. All the burger ingredients were adequate and really fuse in perfectly. The chips were crispy and nice.

Strawberry milkshake – N2,200

The strawberry milkshake was simply divine! I excitingly got to witness how it was made and I appreciated the milkshake even more. It was creamy and very luscious.

Double cheese mushroom toastie – N2,000

At first after placing my order and finding out there was no protein in the toastie I wanted to cancel the order but the staff managed to convince me to go for it because it is really tasty. When my order came I was like hmmmm…. isn’t this too small? After my first bite I totally understood the assignment! The toastie was so tasty that I totally forgot there was no protein in it. It was well seasoned and properly made. The cheese and mushrooms really filled every bite! I enjoyed it.

General Review

I absolutely loved scoop’d and I think it is worth the trip. The variety menu options will leave you no room for dissatisfaction. The restaurant space is perfect and fits its purpose.

I look forward to visiting again and also hearing about your own scoop’d experience.

Frosty Pops/Boba Pops, Abuja.

Hi guys! Today I come bearing sugar, spice and everything nice. I’m sure by now you have already seen or head about frosty pops the one and only popsicle/boba shop in Abuja. It’s basically like an ice cream shop but for popsicles.

Frosty pops launched sometime during the month of ramadan at no 1 Konoko crescent Wuse 2, Abuja. I have been dying to go there since they opened and I finally did. My experience was as colourful as the place looks.

Ambience

The ambience is absolutely colourful! The space fits perfectly for its purpose. It is vibrant, colourful and very fun. They have a few sitting areas for a quick Popsicle but nothing too serious or long term. They have a restroom for Convinence which i’m yet to check out yet but definitely will in my next visit.

Popsicles

Ou la la! they have all shades of popsicles, ranging from sweet tooth to vegan. The most interesting fact about all the popsicles is that they are all a 100% vegan and natural. The popsicles are also hand crafted, which is so cool.

The popsicles range from N1,500 to N1,800. They also have many topping options at different rates. This means you can decorate your popsicle to your satisfaction.

So far I have tried the Nutella, chocolate, strawberry(fruit), cotton candy Oreo & creamy strawberry. They all taste amazing! I must admit that the popsicles are quite addictive because you just can’t stop yourself from wanting more.

It is definitely worth a try!

Boba Pops

Unfortunately, I am still yet to try out the boba tea at frosty pops because they are always sold out anytime I go for it. I look forward to trying it out soon and updating this post.

Till then . . . xoxo

Zona cafe restaurant & grill, Abuja.

Hi there friends and lovers! It has been a hot minute since I dropped my last blog post and it really wasn’t intentional. I have been overwhelmed with pretty much every thing. I recently checked out the newly revamped Zone cafe restaurant with one of my favourite Abuja food/bloggers Uchey (@thelifestylegal_).

Zona cafe is a restaurant that has been in Abuja for a while now. It is located at NO 32 Kumasi Crescent Wuse 2, Abuja. Initially, they had a really cute and attractive cafe space that captured the hearts of so many when they launched. They had a lot of people trooping in when they launched because of their attractive space but I was never one of them. Mainly because it just seemed too cliche the time and I had zero to no expectations of their food. I noticed they went a bit MIA after a while which wasn’t really a shock to me because I kinda predicted it.

About a month ago, I noticed a few changes to their online presence and I noticed a whole new space and Instantly got intrigued! I knew I just had check it out and see what they’ve got going on.

The newly revamped zone cafe is artistic, beautiful and very full of vibe. Scroll down to read all about my date with Uchey and our experience of at the cafe.

Ambience

The ambience at the cafe is absolutely intriguing! It features a nice and very artistic ambience. I absolutely loved the murals on the wall. Each angle of the cafe Is a work of art and you cannot help but stare. The LED lights gave the space a warm look which is absolutely grate to experience but not really the best lighting for pictures which is a bit of a turn off considering the fact that we live in a time where all people wanna do is take pictures (I am people…lol).

The restaurant space is quite big and can conveniently take up to 50 people, however I do not think they have enough chairs for that. There’s a lot of room to move freely without being in people’s faces and a bit of privacy to an extent. The restaurant also features a single bathroom for convenience.

Although they currently have no outdoor space, the indoor space is quite adequate and very beautiful. My favourite spot at the cafe has to be the part with the mural wearing glasses and having paint gushing out of it. I absolutely love it!

Menu

The restaurant menu is quite brief honestly. I mean not in it’s entirety, but the food options are limited. The menu features a couple of breakfast options, burgers/sandwiches, pastas and grills. The drinks menu however has a vast amount of options, especially cocktails. They may have just gone ahead to re-name the place ‘Zona bar & grills’.

Food

Like I mentioned earlier, we didn’t have a lot of options when it came to food so we just ordered a burger meal and pasta. Uchey ordered the Zona Highway Man Burger and I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese.

Spaghetti Bolognese – N5,000

The spaghetti was beautifully served, with a cute little tomato designed as a rose and some celery at the top. The dish was served smoking hot which definitely made it more enjoyable. The pasta was finely made and the sauce had the right proportions ingredients. It wasn’t too spicy and also wasn’t tasteless as well. The meal portion was fair to be honest. It wasn’t too small and it certainly wasn’t too much either. All in all, I really enjoyed my meal.

Zona Highway Man Burger – N5,500

The highway man burger is truly deserving of it’s name. The first thing to note about it is the uniqueness of the bun. I thing it was toasted on both sides. I’m still yet to figure out if they made their own burger bun or its just a regular bun toasted to look that way. It was filled with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, fried egg, a beef patty and mayonnaise sauce. It was served with a portion of fries and ketchup and it was just as beautifully plated as the spaghetti bolognese.

I had a taste of the burger and it was very juicy and tender. I loved every bit of it and it definitely made one of the highlights of my visit. The portion is adequate and honestly worth the price

Drinks

For drinks, I ordered a Virgin Daiquiri – N3,000 and Uchey ordered Pink lady – N3,000.

The Virgin Daiquiri was basically blended strawberries (frozen) and lime juice. It was definitely a hit! I feel like a strawberry daiquiri is one drink you can’t go wrong with both as the restaurant making it and the person making it. If you order a daiquiri from a restaurant and it tastes bad, your next move should be to run because the food will most likely tase bad as well. I absolutely loved it and Ucey the queen of daiquiri’s also enjoyed it too.

The Pink lady drink was made up of strawberry yoghurt, apple juice, cranberry juice and grenadine. I didn’t really get a taste of it but she said it was really really nice. I look forward to trying it out when next I visit.

General review

Zona cafe and grill have really come a long way from their old space to this new one right here. Looking beyond the space, they have done well with their menu, pricing and service as well. I am actually impressed and I had a great experience. I truly hope that they are able to keep up with the new standards and maybe even do much better in the future.

Bleu Café | wuse, Abuja.

Bleu café is a nice cozy spot famously owned by Chef Ro (Umeeta Rabiu). It is a food and pastry cafe that sprung up during the Covid-19 Lockdown in 2020. It started off as an online cafe and eventually launched into a walk-in/sit down space. It was actually exciting and a proud moment to see that a fellow female food blogger had launched a space of her own and i looked forward to checking it out but for one reason or the other i never visited until 2022. This was partly because there was a lot of hype surrounding the place and i wanted it to die down a little before visiting.

Bleu Café is located at 16 Bangui street Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. I stopped by for a quick bite with a friend and this was my experience.

Ambience

The café is made up of quite a number of see through glass windows which makes it well lit and beautiful. The space is very cozy and simple. It was very neat and tidy and it gives off a subtle and calm vibe. At the time i visited, it was just me in the café and that gave me a lot of time to really analyze the space. The decor style of the café is quite unique and the colors fused in perfectly. The one thing that felt a bit out of place was the wall mounted chair with the LED lights, which serves as a picture spot i guess. I feel like it was put there in a bid to fit in with the current insta trends which was unnecessary because the space already had its own simple & vintage vibe.

Menu

The cafe’s menu is quite packed with a lot of english and Italian food options. They offer quite the variety of food and drink options and the pricing is affordable.

Food & Drink

I wanted something sweet and satisfying for brunch so i opted for the dutch baby pancakes and strawberry Frappe. While my friend just ordered a slice of red velvet cake.

Dutch baby pancakes – NGN4,000

For those who do not already know, Dutch baby pancakes are a unique style of oven baked pancakes as opposed to the usual fried one. The pancakes took about 30minutes to be served because it was made fresh. It was served in a mini cast iron skillet pan with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with bananas and strawberries, a sprinkle of powdered sugar and syrup. The pancake was soft with a nice texture and it wasn’t too sweet. The bananas and strawberries also made a fine pairing with the pancakes. However, there was one problem. The quality of ice cream used was very poor. As a result of the poor quality of the ice cream, the ice cream separated from the sugar components at the feel of heat. This made the pancakes soak in pool of sugar and melted ice that eventually made it soggy. By the time i got to the end, it was dutch baby pancakes, sugar, water and a hint of cream.

Red velvet cake – NGN2,500

The cake slice was really nice. It was moist, creamy and rich. Although i would say it’s a bit small for the price.

Strawberry Frappe – NGN3,500

I was excited to try the strawberry Frappe because it was something different from what i am used to ordering at cafe’s. The frappe was served and it was cute but it ended up being cute with no context. The taste was a bit bland. It was neither sweet nor tasteless and i could only taste just a hint of coffee and strawberry flavor in it. The rest of it was ice and vibes. I felt like it had a lot of potential to be a great drink but it wasn’t.

TOTAL BILL – NGN10,212 (including VAT & service charge)

General Review

Bleu café is a nice and cozy spot fit for dine in. It’s also a nice place to cool off and probably get some work done. However, the food wasn’t really great for me which left me disappointed because i expected a certain level of culinary expertise coming from such an establishment. I honestly thought the food will steal my heart and i would be hooked for life but it didn’t. The service was ok, at first the waitress was a bit hostile but subsequently loosened up.

I have had a couple of people reach out to me ever since i posted a reel on Instagram about their own similar experiences and some even worse. So i’m really curious to know. Have you visited Bleu café? Did you have a great experience with the food and service? Please do not hesitate to share.
Xoxo…

Papi grill – Restaurant, Coffee & Patisserie

I’m back again with another new spot in Abuja! I know, i know, you all have been dying to read about a new spot and that’s why i’m here to give you just that!
I found out about Papi grill through an instagram Ad and immediately i knew i had to visit and share all the juicy details. Papi grill is located at 45, Libreville Crescent Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. On the outlook, it appears like a small place but it’s actually quite spacious on the inside. I’m really excited for you to read all about it because i absolutely loved it. Scroll to read more.

Ambience

The cafe ambience is really unique. On the outside it gives Paris cafe vibes. It was decorated with beautiful rustic chairs and tables. The outdoor space is beautifully covered with canopies that keep you away from the sun during the day. There are also some lovely flowers which really add to the beauty of the space. The outdoor space gives you a view of the streets while you dine.
The indoor space is really something else. The black/brown wooden and leather interior combination is really a banger. At first you are met with a small space with bar stools and tables. When you proceed inside, there’s a bigger and more spacious room. There is also a bit of an enclosed private space that is just as pretty as the other spaces. The restaurant space is quiet and peaceful. The indoor space has large windows which gives you a view of the streets and compliments the vibe of the restaurant.

Menu

The cafe menu features quite a lot of food and drink options. I loved that they had quite the variety of starters, main dishes and desserts. They also have nice breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The menu pricing is in between affordable and expensive, depending on what you are going for.

Food & Drinks

For my food and drink, i wanted something tasty and spicy so i ordered the Penne in spicy alfredo sauce with chicken and veggies with a glass of orange juice. My sister ordered Turkish coffee with white chocolate banana bread.

Turkish coffee – NGN1,500

Before now, my sister and i had never tried Turkish coffee before so we were quite excited to try it. It was served in a cute tea pot with an option of extra honey and sugar. It was served hot & fresh so we really enjoyed it. The coffee was already mixed with milk and it tasted a bit spicy like it had some herbs or ingredients mixed in it. The coffee was unfiltered, which is apparently the way Turkish coffee is meant to be so you have to give it a good stir before drinking. I was glad they actually made a nice Turkish coffee and not a shabby mediocre attempt at one.

White chocolate Banana bread – NGN1,500

The serving of the white chocolate banana bread was actually beyond my expectation. It was beautifully served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a bit of a honey drizzle. The pairing of the banana bread with vanilla ice cream was great. The banana bread wasn’t too sweet, so the additional honey drizzle didn’t make it unbearable to eat. The banana bread itself was a bit dry and lacking moisture.

Penne in spicy alfredo sauce with chicken and veggies – NGN5,300

The penne pasta was a whole dish and more! When i saw it on the menu i thought the chicken and veggies would all be mixed together in the making of the pasta. I was surprised to see each component finely made on its own. The penne was indeed spicy, they did not lie about that! I have a very low tolerance for spicy food so it was a bit too spicy for me. Although i won’t lie, i cleared my plate because the meal was too good to not eat. I was prepared to face the consequences. The vegetables were soft and nicely cut. The vegetables had a little zesty flavor to it. The chicken on the other hand was a bit spicy as well. It was tender and tasty. All in all it was a great and very satisfying dish.

Orange juice – NGN1,500

First off, the orange juice was quite affordable so i expected the usual trend of restaurants just serving a glass of 5 alive orange juice instead of freshly squeezed orange juice. To my surprise it was actually fresh orange juice. I mean if it wasn’t, then they did a very good job of getting a nice packaged orange juice because it was really good and it tasted fresh and refreshing.

General Review

The cafe/restaurant service is really really great. It’s always very obvious when you enter a newly opened restaurant and you know they are READY! It’s not just some tight budget, unexperienced, poorly planned/managed place. Their ambience, service and food is awesome and they are most definitely off to a great start and it is really commendable. The one thing i would say doesn’t really settle well with me is the name of the place. Now the cafe is named ’Papi grill’ which automatically gives off the notion of an outdoor or grill kind of place but instead it’s not really like that. It is also a cafe/patisserie but has limited options of pastries on the menu. Kindly drop a comment or share your experience/thoughts if you visit papi grill.

The Milk shop & Agege Burger, Abuja.

In my last blog post, i mentioned ‘sizzling hot new spot’. Well, this spot is one! The milk shop & Agege burger are two incredible food vendors that have existed for quite some time now. Agege Burger was an online food vendor that Launched back in 2020. The milk shop however existed before 2020 and they had a restaurant/cafe at Kampala street.
I noticed the collaborative space/efforts sometime in January and i got super excited because i already knew that it was going to be awesome.

The cafe/restaurant is located at Left annex, Maitama amuesement park Abuja, Nigeria. It is right next to Mambaah cafe. Although they are still running a soft opening, i just had to check it out. I tried out food and drinks from the milk shop, but i wasn’t able to try anything from agege burger. I look forward to doing so next time. Here’s a full review of the shared space and the food and drinks at the milk shop.

Ambience

BLOWN!!!! i was absolutely blown away by the ambience. It looks like something straight out of a movie. On approaching the space, it looks very surreal. It is a small and cozy place made of see through glass which is covered by a shed naturally created by trees. Walking into the cafe there’s a cement walkway amidst the gravel stones which cover the floor. It is beautifully decorated with cane and wood furniture. The most incredibly creative thing about the space is the ceiling. it is not your regular PVC ceiling, rather it is made up of creative items carefully utilized to give an artistic look to the space. The space is calm, very serene and has a relaxing vibe to it. It is a great space to sit, have a cup of coffee or 5, get some work done, read a book, a tea party or book club meeting.
I am absolutely in love with this space. The combination of contemporary, modern, artistic and outdoor designs is definitely a hit.

Food

The milk shop is still running a soft opening so there was no physical menu available. The had a little display board with a few pastries listed and some on display. I already knew about the famous chicken pot pie so i went ahead to order it and a brownie that was on display.

Smoked Chicken pot pie – NGN3,500

The smoked chicken pot pie took about 40 minutes to get ready but it was really worth the wait. It was served with a slice of diagonally cut toast bread. When the pot pie was served, it was really smoking! It had a crisp crust which reveals a hot savory chicken filling. After breaking through the crust i literally had to wait for it to cool down a bit before eating. It was very tasty and satisfying. It tasted like fresh out of the oven chicken pie but in a pot…lol. The pie filling was not too spicy. It was rich and very creamy. The bread paired with the pie was just perfect and it was all round an amazing dish. I’m so glad to know that they have been able to maintain their pot pie standards all these years.

Brownie with homemade ice cream – NGN2,200

After the tasty smoked chicken pot pie, i just had to have something sweet to balance it out. The brownies costs NGN1,000 and an additional N1,200 is added when served with homemade ice cream and syrup. At first i honestly thought the brownie was way too small for N1,000 but after my first bite i realized why it cost so much. As small as it was, it was hard to finish it all because it was so satisfying. It was extremely fudgy! Literally the most fudgy brownies i have ever had. I’m not so sure i liked the homemade ice cream though. It was really icy or sweet, it tasted like whipped cream.

Drinks

There wasn’t really and drink menu available, we just asked for what the had and they told us ice tea and caramel frappe.

Caramel Frappe – NGN2,500

The caramel frappe was beautifully served. Although it was beautiful, it didn’t really hit the right notes. It was very sweet and i could barely taste the caramel or coffee in it. It was an ok drink but it could have definitely been better.

Earl grey iced tea – NGN1,500

The earl grey ice tea was nice and flavorful. At some point it got too sweet but i definitely enjoyed it. The lemon slices gave it a little edge that i loved. I kept thinking about the taste so much after i left, that it inspired me to make some at home.

General review

The milk shop & Agege burger cafe is definitely a great stop to grab a juicy bite. The space is incredibly unique and from what i’ve had so far, they have quality food. However, i do not think they are ready for dine in just yet. There is no physical menu, no readily available staff to attend to customers and so much more. For now, i think it is best for grab and go, quick eats, and to while away time. (This is subject to time of this review though, there might be some changes soon). Kindly drop your comments or tag me if you do visit The milk shop & Agege burger.
