Bleu Café | wuse, Abuja.

Bleu café is a nice cozy spot famously owned by Chef Ro (Umeeta Rabiu). It is a food and pastry cafe that sprung up during the Covid-19 Lockdown in 2020. It started off as an online cafe and eventually launched into a walk-in/sit down space. It was actually exciting and a proud moment to see that a fellow female food blogger had launched a space of her own and i looked forward to checking it out but for one reason or the other i never visited until 2022. This was partly because there was a lot of hype surrounding the place and i wanted it to die down a little before visiting.

Bleu Café is located at 16 Bangui street Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. I stopped by for a quick bite with a friend and this was my experience.

Ambience

The café is made up of quite a number of see through glass windows which makes it well lit and beautiful. The space is very cozy and simple. It was very neat and tidy and it gives off a subtle and calm vibe. At the time i visited, it was just me in the café and that gave me a lot of time to really analyze the space. The decor style of the café is quite unique and the colors fused in perfectly. The one thing that felt a bit out of place was the wall mounted chair with the LED lights, which serves as a picture spot i guess. I feel like it was put there in a bid to fit in with the current insta trends which was unnecessary because the space already had its own simple & vintage vibe.

Menu

The cafe’s menu is quite packed with a lot of english and Italian food options. They offer quite the variety of food and drink options and the pricing is affordable.

Food & Drink

I wanted something sweet and satisfying for brunch so i opted for the dutch baby pancakes and strawberry Frappe. While my friend just ordered a slice of red velvet cake.

Dutch baby pancakes – NGN4,000

For those who do not already know, Dutch baby pancakes are a unique style of oven baked pancakes as opposed to the usual fried one. The pancakes took about 30minutes to be served because it was made fresh. It was served in a mini cast iron skillet pan with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with bananas and strawberries, a sprinkle of powdered sugar and syrup. The pancake was soft with a nice texture and it wasn’t too sweet. The bananas and strawberries also made a fine pairing with the pancakes. However, there was one problem. The quality of ice cream used was very poor. As a result of the poor quality of the ice cream, the ice cream separated from the sugar components at the feel of heat. This made the pancakes soak in pool of sugar and melted ice that eventually made it soggy. By the time i got to the end, it was dutch baby pancakes, sugar, water and a hint of cream.

Red velvet cake – NGN2,500

The cake slice was really nice. It was moist, creamy and rich. Although i would say it’s a bit small for the price.

Strawberry Frappe – NGN3,500

I was excited to try the strawberry Frappe because it was something different from what i am used to ordering at cafe’s. The frappe was served and it was cute but it ended up being cute with no context. The taste was a bit bland. It was neither sweet nor tasteless and i could only taste just a hint of coffee and strawberry flavor in it. The rest of it was ice and vibes. I felt like it had a lot of potential to be a great drink but it wasn’t.

TOTAL BILL – NGN10,212 (including VAT & service charge)

General Review

Bleu café is a nice and cozy spot fit for dine in. It’s also a nice place to cool off and probably get some work done. However, the food wasn’t really great for me which left me disappointed because i expected a certain level of culinary expertise coming from such an establishment. I honestly thought the food will steal my heart and i would be hooked for life but it didn’t. The service was ok, at first the waitress was a bit hostile but subsequently loosened up.

I have had a couple of people reach out to me ever since i posted a reel on Instagram about their own similar experiences and some even worse. So i’m really curious to know. Have you visited Bleu café? Did you have a great experience with the food and service? Please do not hesitate to share.
Xoxo…

Papi grill – Restaurant, Coffee & Patisserie

I’m back again with another new spot in Abuja! I know, i know, you all have been dying to read about a new spot and that’s why i’m here to give you just that!
I found out about Papi grill through an instagram Ad and immediately i knew i had to visit and share all the juicy details. Papi grill is located at 45, Libreville Crescent Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. On the outlook, it appears like a small place but it’s actually quite spacious on the inside. I’m really excited for you to read all about it because i absolutely loved it. Scroll to read more.

Ambience

The cafe ambience is really unique. On the outside it gives Paris cafe vibes. It was decorated with beautiful rustic chairs and tables. The outdoor space is beautifully covered with canopies that keep you away from the sun during the day. There are also some lovely flowers which really add to the beauty of the space. The outdoor space gives you a view of the streets while you dine.
The indoor space is really something else. The black/brown wooden and leather interior combination is really a banger. At first you are met with a small space with bar stools and tables. When you proceed inside, there’s a bigger and more spacious room. There is also a bit of an enclosed private space that is just as pretty as the other spaces. The restaurant space is quiet and peaceful. The indoor space has large windows which gives you a view of the streets and compliments the vibe of the restaurant.

Menu

The cafe menu features quite a lot of food and drink options. I loved that they had quite the variety of starters, main dishes and desserts. They also have nice breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The menu pricing is in between affordable and expensive, depending on what you are going for.

Food & Drinks

For my food and drink, i wanted something tasty and spicy so i ordered the Penne in spicy alfredo sauce with chicken and veggies with a glass of orange juice. My sister ordered Turkish coffee with white chocolate banana bread.

Turkish coffee – NGN1,500

Before now, my sister and i had never tried Turkish coffee before so we were quite excited to try it. It was served in a cute tea pot with an option of extra honey and sugar. It was served hot & fresh so we really enjoyed it. The coffee was already mixed with milk and it tasted a bit spicy like it had some herbs or ingredients mixed in it. The coffee was unfiltered, which is apparently the way Turkish coffee is meant to be so you have to give it a good stir before drinking. I was glad they actually made a nice Turkish coffee and not a shabby mediocre attempt at one.

White chocolate Banana bread – NGN1,500

The serving of the white chocolate banana bread was actually beyond my expectation. It was beautifully served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a bit of a honey drizzle. The pairing of the banana bread with vanilla ice cream was great. The banana bread wasn’t too sweet, so the additional honey drizzle didn’t make it unbearable to eat. The banana bread itself was a bit dry and lacking moisture.

Penne in spicy alfredo sauce with chicken and veggies – NGN5,300

The penne pasta was a whole dish and more! When i saw it on the menu i thought the chicken and veggies would all be mixed together in the making of the pasta. I was surprised to see each component finely made on its own. The penne was indeed spicy, they did not lie about that! I have a very low tolerance for spicy food so it was a bit too spicy for me. Although i won’t lie, i cleared my plate because the meal was too good to not eat. I was prepared to face the consequences. The vegetables were soft and nicely cut. The vegetables had a little zesty flavor to it. The chicken on the other hand was a bit spicy as well. It was tender and tasty. All in all it was a great and very satisfying dish.

Orange juice – NGN1,500

First off, the orange juice was quite affordable so i expected the usual trend of restaurants just serving a glass of 5 alive orange juice instead of freshly squeezed orange juice. To my surprise it was actually fresh orange juice. I mean if it wasn’t, then they did a very good job of getting a nice packaged orange juice because it was really good and it tasted fresh and refreshing.

General Review

The cafe/restaurant service is really really great. It’s always very obvious when you enter a newly opened restaurant and you know they are READY! It’s not just some tight budget, unexperienced, poorly planned/managed place. Their ambience, service and food is awesome and they are most definitely off to a great start and it is really commendable. The one thing i would say doesn’t really settle well with me is the name of the place. Now the cafe is named ’Papi grill’ which automatically gives off the notion of an outdoor or grill kind of place but instead it’s not really like that. It is also a cafe/patisserie but has limited options of pastries on the menu. Kindly drop a comment or share your experience/thoughts if you visit papi grill.

The Milk shop & Agege Burger, Abuja.

In my last blog post, i mentioned ‘sizzling hot new spot’. Well, this spot is one! The milk shop & Agege burger are two incredible food vendors that have existed for quite some time now. Agege Burger was an online food vendor that Launched back in 2020. The milk shop however existed before 2020 and they had a restaurant/cafe at Kampala street.
I noticed the collaborative space/efforts sometime in January and i got super excited because i already knew that it was going to be awesome.

The cafe/restaurant is located at Left annex, Maitama amuesement park Abuja, Nigeria. It is right next to Mambaah cafe. Although they are still running a soft opening, i just had to check it out. I tried out food and drinks from the milk shop, but i wasn’t able to try anything from agege burger. I look forward to doing so next time. Here’s a full review of the shared space and the food and drinks at the milk shop.

Ambience

BLOWN!!!! i was absolutely blown away by the ambience. It looks like something straight out of a movie. On approaching the space, it looks very surreal. It is a small and cozy place made of see through glass which is covered by a shed naturally created by trees. Walking into the cafe there’s a cement walkway amidst the gravel stones which cover the floor. It is beautifully decorated with cane and wood furniture. The most incredibly creative thing about the space is the ceiling. it is not your regular PVC ceiling, rather it is made up of creative items carefully utilized to give an artistic look to the space. The space is calm, very serene and has a relaxing vibe to it. It is a great space to sit, have a cup of coffee or 5, get some work done, read a book, a tea party or book club meeting.
I am absolutely in love with this space. The combination of contemporary, modern, artistic and outdoor designs is definitely a hit.

Food

The milk shop is still running a soft opening so there was no physical menu available. The had a little display board with a few pastries listed and some on display. I already knew about the famous chicken pot pie so i went ahead to order it and a brownie that was on display.

Smoked Chicken pot pie – NGN3,500

The smoked chicken pot pie took about 40 minutes to get ready but it was really worth the wait. It was served with a slice of diagonally cut toast bread. When the pot pie was served, it was really smoking! It had a crisp crust which reveals a hot savory chicken filling. After breaking through the crust i literally had to wait for it to cool down a bit before eating. It was very tasty and satisfying. It tasted like fresh out of the oven chicken pie but in a pot…lol. The pie filling was not too spicy. It was rich and very creamy. The bread paired with the pie was just perfect and it was all round an amazing dish. I’m so glad to know that they have been able to maintain their pot pie standards all these years.

Brownie with homemade ice cream – NGN2,200

After the tasty smoked chicken pot pie, i just had to have something sweet to balance it out. The brownies costs NGN1,000 and an additional N1,200 is added when served with homemade ice cream and syrup. At first i honestly thought the brownie was way too small for N1,000 but after my first bite i realized why it cost so much. As small as it was, it was hard to finish it all because it was so satisfying. It was extremely fudgy! Literally the most fudgy brownies i have ever had. I’m not so sure i liked the homemade ice cream though. It was really icy or sweet, it tasted like whipped cream.

Drinks

There wasn’t really and drink menu available, we just asked for what the had and they told us ice tea and caramel frappe.

Caramel Frappe – NGN2,500

The caramel frappe was beautifully served. Although it was beautiful, it didn’t really hit the right notes. It was very sweet and i could barely taste the caramel or coffee in it. It was an ok drink but it could have definitely been better.

Earl grey iced tea – NGN1,500

The earl grey ice tea was nice and flavorful. At some point it got too sweet but i definitely enjoyed it. The lemon slices gave it a little edge that i loved. I kept thinking about the taste so much after i left, that it inspired me to make some at home.

General review

The milk shop & Agege burger cafe is definitely a great stop to grab a juicy bite. The space is incredibly unique and from what i’ve had so far, they have quality food. However, i do not think they are ready for dine in just yet. There is no physical menu, no readily available staff to attend to customers and so much more. For now, i think it is best for grab and go, quick eats, and to while away time. (This is subject to time of this review though, there might be some changes soon). Kindly drop your comments or tag me if you do visit The milk shop & Agege burger.

Cafe Flour, Abuja.

Cafe flour is one of those old but gold places in Abuja. It is not one of the sizzling new hotspots because it has existed for a couple of years now but it definitely a place worth visiting. It is located at Cappador mall, opposite Yoruba mosque, Maitama Abuja, Nigeria. They offer a nice range of pastries and breakfast options which are served at their serene and very customer friendly environment. I recently visited the cafe to have brunch with my sisters and it turned out great. Read all about my brunch experience at flour below.

Ambience

The cafe ambience is instantly relaxing. It is clean, fresh and cozy. I loved how there were fresh flowers on the table. The cafe has large see though windows which really helped to light up the place. There was a wall that had picture frames filled with memories, that makes you feel like you are going through a time lapse. The prettiest part of the cafe was the counter. The counter has a display of different pastries and behind it was a pretty, beautifully decorated pink wall. One of the interesting things about the cafe is the books. Not only do they have free books for customers to read, they also have games, coloring books, puzzles and more. I really this great and unique feature about the cafe because it helps too keep you creatively engaged. The cafe is a great place for brunch, tea parties, dates and so much more. The outdoor space is a bit more chill. It features a lot of flowers and plants so its very cool. It is like an elevated balcony, so it gives a little view of the streets. They serve shisha outdoors and it seems like a great place to unwind.

Menu

The cafe menu features a lot of breakfast options, teas, drinks & salads. I must say, they have quite the variety of breakfast options that border on Nigerian and international tastes. The pricing is also very affordable and budget friendly.

Food

My oh my! The food was certainly delicious. We had pancakes, waffles, a sandwich and chips to go with it.

Pancakes – NGN3,000

From the description the the menu, the pancakes were just regular pancakes served with syrup but i think they must be mistaken because the pancakes are certainly beyond regular. It was beautifully served, obviously! beyond my expectation because i expected it to be very very basic. The pancakes were warm, soft and very fluffy. It was very filling because of how rich it was. You will need quite the appetite to finish the full 4 stacks of pancakes. Not to worry though, the have an alternative half stack option for N2,000.

Lotus pancakes – NGN4,000

Hmmmmm, no words! That was my first reaction. I had to drop my fork and think for a few seconds before continuing with the lotus pancakes. Now i have heard words and hype about these pancakes before going round but i was like ermmm i’m sure it will be ok. After that first bite i realized! it is way beyond ok. It is absolutely amazing! It is soft, warm and fluffy pancakes with layers of biscoff spread and crushed biscoff biscuits that is topped of with a heavy pour of melted biscoff spread and crushed biscoff biscuits. These pancakes are the TRUTH!! I’m just going to go ahead and stop myself with the descriptions so i won’t ruin it for those who haven’t tried it yet. Just know, i enjoyed it so much i went back some days later to eat it again. If you’re a pancake/Lotus biscoff lover, i definitely recommend.

Flour Crispy waffles – NGN4,000

I loved how the waffles were served. I enjoyed the waffles, although at some point it felt a bit unreal and plastic-ish. I don’t quite know how to adequately explain it. The chicken was very tasty and made a fantastic pair with the waffles. It was crispy, juicy and had adequate spice. I enjoyed the crispy chicken more than the waffles.

Smokey greasy groove sandwich – NGN3,500

The smokey greasy groove sandwich was just right. Average portion, affordable, nice plating, crunchy sandwich and tasty smoked chicken. The sandwich was just 2 slices of bread split into halves but i expected more really. The sandwich was also a bit flat, because it wasn’t ingredients packed. It just had smoked chicken and cheese. It wasn’t too flavorful and it wasn’t bad either.

Drinks

Frappuccino – NGN2,500

The Frappuccino was honestly disappointing. I mean, it was consumable but i expected better considering the quality of the food i had. It wasn’t cold at all, it was almost room temperature. The drink ingredients didn’t blend well so some parts were good and some parts weren’t. I hoped it was just a bad batch and gave them a pass because i enjoyed everything else. If you have ever tried the Frappuccino at cafe flour, kindly share your experience in the comments.

TOTAL BILL – NGN19,800 (including VAT and service charge)

General Review

Cafe flour is definitely a great spot. I love their space, the food and customer service. The effort the put into the space especially during festivities is quite remarkable and i have definitely marked it as my go to spot for amazing pancakes. I look forward to visiting them again soon to try out pastries and other menu items.

Pizza Hut, Wuse Abuja.

If you’re a frequent reader of mine, you may have noticed i have been on a pizza roll lately. Galaxy pizza remains my favourite though, but as a food blogger i have to constantly try new places because i’m in search of the best of the bestest…lol. Anyway, in my pizza explorations i landed in one of the biggest pizza franchises in the world. If you’re Nigerian, you may have learnt about pizza hut from movies, the internet or abroad trips but definitely not from Nigeria. I was actually excited that they finally opened in Nigeria because it was long over due. Although they opened in 2021, i wasn’t able to visit until recently.

Pizza hut currently has two locations in Abuja. The first is located on the ground floor in Jabi Lake mall and the second is located at Kumasi crescent Wuse 2. This review will be taking a look at Pizza hut Wuse 2.

Ambience

The pizza hut space is quite spacious. The environment is clean and calm. At the time i went, it wasn’t very rowdy so i was able to appreciate the space. I most definitely appreciated the large windows and the source of light it gives the space. It is nicely decorated for a pizza place and it can fit up to 50 people at once. It strikes me as place that would be great for a kids birthday party, if they allow events.
They also have a nice outdoor space, which is most suitable in the evenings or at night because the sun will be down by then.

Menu

The pizza hut menu is quite concise. The have dessert, drinks, beverages, pasta, jollof rice, starters and several beverages. I noticed however that their pizza options were quite small. The pizza options they had were not as much as i expected. Their pricing is quite affordable. You can get a pizza for as low as N3,200. You can also get other items on the on the menu with just N2,000. This mean that it can fit a N5,000 budget for two people.

Pizza

For my pizza i had the BBQ chicken SUYA pizza (medium) – NGN3,500

I selected the BBQ chicken pizza with the traditional crust which is meant to be not too thin and not too thick. First of all i would say the medium sized pizza is actually small. Secondly, the traditional crust is not medium thick/thin it is actually thin. None of these two things make the pizza less enjoyable, it just could use a better description so customers won’t end up disappointed. The pizza package is nice and very secure. When i opened the pizza box, i was in love! I loved the colors, the pizza was cheese packed! It was definitely very cheesy. I did not regret my choice at all. Picking up a slice was a bit difficult because the pizza was hot, the crust was thin and couldn’t hold up the ingredients. The pizza tasted really nice. I absolutely loved the crust, but my sisters didn’t. The pizza did not really taste different from other bbq chicken suya pizza’s i have had, it was just nice.

General review

Pizza hut is a nice and customer friendly pizza spot. I liked my pizza and i would definitely be checking them out again soon to try out other items that have caught my eye on their menu.

Paparimz Pizza

Paparimz pizza is a blazing new pizza spot taking Abuja by storm. It is located at No 3 Bangui Street, Wuse II Abuja Abuja, Nigeria. If you know me and follow me on instagram, you would know that i have one pizza plug in Abuja and its Galaxy Pizza. As such, I’m reluctant to try other pizza places because i always end up back at Galaxy pizza.

Walking into Paparimz, i was like hmmm not bad, but let’s see if they can beat my expectations. The space is quite small and is most suitable for pick ups only. Although that is the case, the still didn’t leave it looking distasteful. They had nice Murals on the wall and a few stools you can sit on and wait for your pizza. I loved how their menu style is like a chalk board with all the menu items listed boldly for you to choose from. I love that you can watch your pizza being made, even to the point where it gets to the oven. It’s like making your own pizza, but with another persons hands.

Menu

The menu is one of my favourite things about Paparimz. Like i mentioned earlier, it’s a board on the wall with the menu items and prices listed. They offer quite a wide range of options. It is quite frankly one of the largest i’ve seen for a pizza place in Abuja. They do not only sell pizza’s, they also sell desserts, wraps, drinks, wings, shawarma, subs and you have the chance to make your own Pizza to your taste.

Pizza

So, the main reason i went to Paparimz was to try out pizza right? Then lets have a taste of it!

I ended up with a Large and quite unusual pizza combo. I had the Philly cheese steak and Hawaiian pizza combo. I also got to try out the garlic cheese bread.

Philly cheese steak / Hawaiian pizza comboNGN5,500

I call this an unusual Pizza combo because i have never had pizza with pineapples on it before, i usually just skip that option because i mean, the internet said it sucks right? Well, i’m here to tell you that it sucks. Now, i wouldn’t have ordinarily tried it, but thanks to Aramide, i did and i loved it. It tastes like every other pizza, but with a flair! Like we all know, pepperoni slices are salty, spicy and a bit tangy, but pineapples are sweet. Well, a  taste of the two put together is absolutely lovely! I most definitely enjoyed it.

For the Philly cheese steak pizza, it came exactly like i expected. Very packed with deliciousness! It had great amounts of everything! Enough cheese, enough vegetables, enough meat and enough spice.

The dough for each pizza was medium thick/thin. This lets you enjoy every bit of the pizza taste.

Garlic cheese breadNGN2,000

The garlic cheese bread was not quite like expected. For some reason i expected the french bread looking garlic bread and not the pizza kind, even though i was obviously in a pizza place, lol. The garlic bread was extra cheesy, it tasted a little bit tangy. It had all the right flavors, however i didn’t really taste a whole lot of garlic though. I actually ended up liking it more than i thought i would and i even packed some to go home.

Shawarma

I tried out the Afro Caribbean shawarma and it costs N1,500. From the name, i expected it to have a lot of funky ingredients and have a lot going on like the philly pizza, but it wasn’t like that. It tasted like regular chicken shawarma really. It is regular sized with single sausage and it had a lot of fresh and crunchy vegetables that i really enjoyed.

Smoothies

First off, all the smoothies cost N1,000 which is very cheap to me so i didn’t expect much. To my surprise, the smoothies were in large cups and they tasted heavenly! I tried the mint freeze and the classic 21 smoothies. Both smoothies were amazing! The mint freeze smoothie tasted like a non alcoholic strawberry Daiquiri and it was so cold, it literally gave me a brain freeze! The classic 21 smoothie was unique. I couldn’t quite place the taste but i know it had strawberries in it and i enjoyed it.

General Review

Paparimz pizza definitely came prepared! They are nailing all the pizza flavor, they are quite affordable and their service is lovely. It is currently one of my top 2 pizza places in Abuja. I hope they stay consistent with this standard and quality because they are doing great! I look forward to trying more tasty options in the future.

The Pasha | Lebanese Restaurant

Hi readers! i know this is not a travel blog, but today i’m taking you on a trip to Lebanon!!! So grab your passports and let’s get going.
Today i’ll be giving you a taste of Lebanon through The Pasha restaurant by city bowl. It is a Lebanese restaurant that has existed in Abuja for more than a decade now. It is currently located at No. 11 Cassandra Street, off Usuma Street Maitama, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. They recently revamped their outdoor space and launched a new menu, which i would be giving you a taste of today.

Ambience

Absolutely beautiful! That was my first impression. I checked out the outdoor space first, before going inside and i must say, the new look is really something! It is colorful, vibrant, playful and very relaxing. The outdoor space features a bar, an open sitting area and an semi – enclosed sitting area which happens to be my favourite because the design is absolutely lovely. I love the wood/earthy color tones used. It makes you feel like you’re in another world entirely. It seems like a great place for a private concert.
The indoor space is more like a work of art! It is truly out of this world, because walking into the space, you literally forget where you are. The space truly captures the real essence of Lebanon. From the walls, to the lights, to the art pieces, everything screams Lebanon. Walking around the space feels like taking a tour of a little historic village.

The food

The pasha restaurant serves a wide range of intercontinental and Lebanese dishes. I had so much to eat that i let there wondering if i would ever eat again. I tried the chicken Caesar salad, spaghetti seafood, Lasagna bolognaise, the pasha special pizza, Escalope savoyard and rosemary pepper chicken.

Chicken Caesar salad – NGN4,700

The chicken caesar salad was definitely one of my favourite dishes served. The Caesar sauce was really creamy and gave the salad a unique taste. I loved the crunch the croutons added to the salad and the chicken was tastefully prepared.

Spaghetti seafood – NGN6,500

At first i thought i would not enjoy the spaghetti, not because it didn’t look great, it totally did. But I’m not a huge fan of the spaghetti style. To my surprise, it was act very lovely. It a shrimp, calamari, garlic, tomato sauce and spagetti combo. It was also a bit hot and spicy (in a good way). The seafood in the spaghetti was pretty adequate and it helped in complementing the dish.

Lasagna bolognaise – NGN7,200

The Lasagna is definitely one of the best I’ve had so far. It was very tasty and extra cheesy. You can easily tell it was made from so much experience. The one thing i didn’t like was the fact that it was very greasy, it was literally dripping oil and it made me get tired of it easily.

The pasha special pizza – NGN7,500

The pizza was indeed special! It was packed with so many delicious ingredients that you get lost in the taste at first. It was a mixture of beef ham, tuna fish, mushrooms, olives, shrimps, mozzarella cheese and so much more. The pizza though was a bit thin, which allows you to really have a good taste of the delicious pizza ingredients. I must say, i never knew beef ham and tuna fish together on a pizza will taste that good.

Escalope savoyard – NGN8,500

This was certainly a unique dish, i didn’t enjoy it that much. I mean, it tasted nice but by the time i had it i was already high on cheese so i didn’t really eat much of it. The breaded fillet was kind of thick, but i loved the flavor the onions and mushrooms added.

Rosemary pepper chicken – NGN6,950

The rosemary pepper chicken was BOMB! The chicken was soft and tender. The sauce paired with the chicken was so creamy and rich, i felt like devouring the whole plate in one bite, at the same i wanted to eat it in bits so i could savor every bite and it would not finish. I do not think it was really peppery though, even if it tasted really amazing just the way it was served.

Drinks

There were a lot of beautiful drinks served. Most of the drinks were cocktails, and since i do not take alcohol, i opted for the chapman and chocolate milkshake.
Chapman – N3,000

The chapman had the regular chapman taste. However, it was one of the most stylishly served chapman’s i have ever received. The bartender made it look so good, i was tempted to think it wasn’t just ordinary chapman.

Chocolate Milkshake – N3,000

The chocolate milkshake was the last thing i had so it filled up the space of dessert in my stomach. I didn’t get a good picture of it, but i assure you it tasted really good. It was very creamy and not too sweet. It was neatly topped with whipped cream and Oreo.

General review

I had a great time at The Pasha Lebanese restaurant by City Bowl. I did not envision myself enjoying the food because I’ve heard so many conflicting reviews but with the new management, they are doing really great and the food is very tasty. The revamped outdoor space is definitely one of the best things about the place at the moment. It gives all sorts of chilled, relaxing peaceful hangout vibes.

Cafe Dimanche – Updated review

Pheeww! it almost feels like i have taken 1 month to write this blog post but really i drafted it like a week ago. For some reason anytime i visit Cafe Dimanche i always drag my feet to write a review, but this time i’m fighting the demons and sharing it because it is totally worth the read!

Cafe Dimanche is located at Food City , Bangui street Abuja, Nigeria. I first visited cafe Dimanche with my girls when it first opened in 2021 and i wouldn’t really say it was excellent (check out the first review on my instagram page @rukky_ambursa). However, i hoped it would actually get better by the time i visited next, so i gave it some time and gave it another try this year. Here is how my latest experience went down.

Ambience

The ambience looks pretty much the same as the last time i visited, except for the bird cage chair addition on the inside and the umbrellas in the outdoor sitting area. The space is still nice and neatly maintained although it is starting to feel a bit crowded.

Menu

The cafe Dimanche menu has improved since my last visit and now offers quite a number of indigenous dishes which really stood out for me. I love that they tilted towards satisfying our Nigerian taste buds with delicious dishes. The labari grill stood out for me especially. The menu pricing is still quite affordable and can fit a N10,000 budget for two. It would also interest you to know that they are making a few more Nigerian friendly additions like uniquely made fried yam and plantain with egg sauce. I am looking forward to trying it out soon.

Food

Now here’s where it gets juicy, The food part! We ordered the labari jollof with fried chicken, plamb, french fries, combo bucket from the labari grill and sheet cake for dessert .

Labari jollof with fried chicken – NGN5,000

I’m starting off with this because it was the most tasty dish for me. It was a combo of authentic Palm oil Nigerian jollof, fried plantain, tripe and liver. It was served with fried chicken. The labari jollof costs NGN3,500 and the fried chicken costs N1,500. Before i get in too deep, if you spend N5,000 dish it may be the best N5,000 you will ever spend on jollof rice. The jollof rice checked all the boxes! It was not dry, it had adequate moisture, the plantain was freshly made so it was steaming hot. The liver and other proteins served with the jollof were tender and also tastefully prepared. one more thing i loved about this dish is the plating, the way it is served makes you droll even before you taste it. The plating style definitely make you appreciate the dish better.

Plamb – NGN5,000

The plamb dish is a combo of lamb and plantain sauce served with cous cous. This dish was surprisingly outstanding for me, I’ve never had cous cous quite like this before. I can’t fully describe the ingredients of the sauce but i know it was amazing and was a perfect pair for the cous cous. The sauce also had some mixed vegetables which i enjoyed.
Combo bucket(medium) – NGN4,000

The combo bucket is basically a medium platter with Balangu, chicken suya, beef suya and gas meat served with vegetables and nan bread. I was a bit disappointed at first when it wasn’t served in a bucket like the name implied, but i guess the tray like dish helps you appreciate what is served better. Everything served in the dish was a bit cold though but it was enjoyable. The gas meat was quite tough and hard to eat but every other thing was tasty.

Sheet cake topped with ice cream – NGN2,000

We ordered the sheet cake particularly for a friend celebrating her birthday and we were able to get it decorated with sprinkles and whipped cream on special request. The sheet cake was very moist and soft. I loved that it wasn’t too sweet and it paired nicely with the Vanilla ice cream. I will definitely be ordering it for dessert next time. (P.s i didn’t get a picture of it)

French fries – NGN1,000 per portion

Drinks

We had the iced strawberry mint lemonade and pina colada smoothie.
Iced strawberry mint lemonade – NGN1,500 The iced lemonade tasted pretty much the same as the last time i went. It tasted like an effortless drink really. I would not say i loved it, but i also wouldn’t say i hated it.

Pina colada smoothie – NGN2,000 The pina colada smoothie was quite rich. It had all the right ingredients and i definitely enjoyed it.

TOTAL BILL – NGN29,025 (including VAT and service charge)

General review

At my first visit to Cafe Dimanche, i totally liked the space but i wasn’t so sure about the food. The savory dishes i had were a bit bland, however the sweet dishes were nice. I felt like nahhh after the hype of the place dies down people definitely won’t be there a lot because the food wasn’t all that to me. Going back now i would say i am quite impressed. The upgrades to the menu were necessary. I absolutely love the new flavors and the efforts they are making to keep customers coming and happy. I would definitely be visiting again soon.

Waffle Way – Abuja’s No. 1 stop for all day breakfast.

Waffle way is a new but not so new restaurant. Why new but not so new you might ask? Well, its because waffle way has existed for about five years now but under a different name ’waffle stop’. They recently rebranded and reopened under a new name ’waffle way’. They were honestly doing quite great as waffle stop and even had a branch in Kano but i’m sure the had their reasons for they change. At first i thought they were closed forever and i was honestly quite sad, they i realized they were just rebranding to come back better and i got excited again! I knew i had to stop by when they reopened and so i did!

Waffle way is located at 45 Gana St, Maitama 900271, Abuja. I visited on a sunday and their opening hours for Sunday’s are 12:00pm – 9:00pm. On the other days of the week, they open by 9:00am. They are open all through these hours to serve all day breakfast which is SUPER! because i could definitely eat breakfast all day! Scroll down to see the all new waffle experience i had.

Ambience

The restaurant ambiance is quite bright and vibrant. Its instantly puts you in a light mood. It gives the perfect eating out for breakfast vibe. It most definitely looks different from the old space. I love the popping orange color incorporated in the decor. The choice of chairs definitely utilizes the space very well. However, I’d say the chairs are quite low. The restaurant has a capacity of just a few people, probably like 20 at most but there’s more space outside which i think can be used for customers as well. The restaurant has a single bathroom for Convinence, nothing really fancy but definitely comes in handy.

The menu

First off, i absolutely love a menu that is graphic. The restaurant menu has pictures of different breakfast meals, kids meals, burgers and drinks. They serve different waffle varieties, including pancakes and french toast. The menu pricing is quite affordable and absolutely worth every bite. You can have a delicious breakfast meal and a nice hot/cold drink for N5,000 or less.

Waffles

Now let’s get down to the real juicy part of this review, WAFFLES! I don’t mean to sound dramatic but I’ve literally dreamt of these waffles and a part of me thought it has already been over hyped in my brain so it will end up basic but nahhh that didn’t happen. As a sweet girl, i instinctively went for a sweet waffle option as opposed to savory. However, i also got to try a bit of savory with the waffles and chicken. I ended up ordering chocolate waffles with vanilla ice cream, topped with oreo and strawberries & also the waffle combo meal.

Chocolate waffles with vanilla ice cream- NGN3,500

First off, the pancakes cost NGN3,500 and it comes with an option two free toppings and syrup choice. The additional ice cream costs NGN800 per scoop. While ordering this, what kept going through my mind was that it might be served thick and probably undone, maybe it might still be gooey inside because not many people know how to make chocolate waffles. When it was served, it looked pretty delicious and i hoped it would taste just as good. I absolutely LOVED IT! It wasn’t like anything i thought, it was perfect. it was warm, soft, perfectly done, not too sweet, and it had a little crisp at the edges which just blew my socks off. It was great and the topping/syrup paired perfectly with the chocolate waffles. I was so filled up i couldn’t finish it but i didn’t want to leave it because it was that good.

Waffle combo meal – NGN5,000

The waffle combo meal was a clash of sweet and savory. It was served with 2 pieces of delicious crispy fried chicken and maple syrup. The waffles were warm and tasty just like the chocolate waffles, i also loved that it was not too sweet at all. The chicken…well, it is hands down one of the best fried chicken i have ever had! It was very crispy and adequately seasoned, down to the bone. I really really enjoyed it!

Drinks

We ordered the iced coffee frapp and iced americano. I must say, they sure know how to work their magic with coffee.

Iced coffee frapp – NGN2,500

The iced coffee frapp was the best coffee anything i have ever had in Abuja. My inner spirit literally screamed after my first sip. It was that good. It tasted like an Oreo milkshake but, coffee. If not that i waddled away like a very fat penguin because my stomach was so filled, i definitely would have ordered some of it to go.

Iced Americano – NGN1,000

The iced americano was served with milk, just incase you don’t like it black which is great because i quite frankly prefer my coffee with milk. It tasted great both ways though. From the first sip you can taste the originality of the coffee used to prepare the drink and how rich the drink was. It was also not too sweet. It is a great option for people who do not enjoy a lot of sugar in their coffee drinks.

Total bill – NGN14,765 (including VAT and Service charge)

General review

The general service and food at waffle way was great. Their staff are properly trained, the food is very good, good wait time, neat and beautiful ambience and to top it off, it is affordable. I’m definitely going to become a regular at waffle way!

Palominos 24-hour restaurant.

It was one of those early Saturday mornings and i had quite a number of appointments starting from 8am. So i rushed out of the house early and didn’t eat anything. After my first appointment i decided to stop by one of the restaurants i’ve had my eye on for quite sometime. It is a 24-hour restaurant so i was sure they would be open. It is located at Plot 367 cappdor galaxy mall Abuja, Nigeria.
I have been dragging my feet writing this review because it ended with mixed feelings. Scroll down to read the full jist.

Ambience

The restaurant ambience was cool, neat and welcoming. The indoor space is quite small and can only sit a few people. It had a counter with pastry displays for the day, Large windows so you can get a view of the city and a small restroom for Convinence. The coolest part about the interior was the cute swing chair with a marble background. It was cute, but i wasn’t so sure about the weight capacity.

The outdoor space was nice and refreshing, it really gave a natural feel and you get a scenery of the road, trees and nature. Although i would say, it may be more suitable in the evening or at night.

The menu

The restaurant menu is very affordable, it can fit a budget of N6,000 for two. The menu holds a number of sweet and savory options. It also offers breakfast/snack/brunch and dinner options. They have cold and hot drink options as well (although half of it wasn’t available when i asked). One thing that turned me off with the menu was the fact that the menu had some corrections done on it with a pen which just seemed distasteful to me. I mean, i totally understand that prices are a bit unstable at the moment but there are honestly better ways to do things like this.

The food

For my breakfast i ordered the pancake stack served with strawberries and my sister ordered a chicken shawarma.

Pancake stack – NGN2,500

The pancakes took about 30minutes to arrive, which was a long time for just 3 very small pancakes. Other ingredients on the plate were ready made so i didn’t think it should take that long. When the pancakes arrived, i thought the portion was too small but then it also dawned on me that it costs N2,500 so heyy…. nothing to complain about right ? I dived right in because i was really hungry and the first thing that happened was a syrup attack. Let me explain, The pancakes were beautifully plated, and i’m a heavy syrup kind of girl so i immediately went ahead to drizzle syrup on my pancakes. What i didn’t stop to think of or realize was that these pancakes were served on on flat plate and as i tried to put syrup on it and it flowed right off the plate to the table and almost poured on my outfit. I immediately had to stop everything and start cleaning it up with paper towels. That happened and i just went on to eat my pancakes with little to no syrup. I’m so used to syrup that i just couldn’t continue without it, so i decided to add a little more, but tactically this time. As i did that, i noticed some kind of particles which was weird because i don’t know of any maple syrup with particles and i stopped to look further and realized they were not particles but ’ANTS’ i had to pause and call on the waiter to show him, so he can see the ants for himself and he was like oh no! it must have been a mistake let me us tissue to remove them from your plate and i was STUNNED!!!!!!! i was like is he joking right now? This is how he resolves dead ants being in a customers food? I was honestly just short of words and i realized it’s really not his fault. He is definitely not properly trained by his employer(s). I just shook my head and left it at that. I was honestly shocked and disheartened.

Chicken Shawarma – NGN1,500

Unlike the pancake saga, the shawarma was nice. It was very juicy, the chicken was tastefully seasoned and it was medium sized(very ok for the price). However, it was served wrapped in a foil which didn’t make sense to me because it wasn’t for take out. Why not chop it into 2 and serve on the board without being wrapped? I wasn’t so surprised to be honest because my expectations had already dropped to 0. I had to slice it into 2 myself to get a good and insightful image on it.

Drinks

I ordered the mixed fruit smoothie(small) and my sister had a sprite (soft drink).

Mixed fruit smoothie (small) – NGN2,000

The mixed fruit smoothie was honestly very nice. It contained watermelon, orange, pineapple, red apples, banana and ginger. My favourite thing about it was the taste of ginger. It was the single unproblematic thing about the restaurant.

Sprite – NGN300

TOTAL BILL – NGN6,300

General review

I left this restaurant dissatisfied and with a heavy sigh. First of all, i think it shouldn’t be called a restaurant, it should be called a cafe. Secondly, i cannot overemphasize the importance of properly trained staff and good customer service. Bad service and undertrained staff can really take a toll on a business no matter how good the food is. I mean the food is good and it is affordable, but with the quality of service, i doubt if i would ever be returning. The sad thing is that, after sharing a few pictures on my instagram page quite a number of people have narrated different unfortunate encounters at the restaurant. It cannot be a bad day or a coincidence. They need to do better if they want to stay in business.
If you’ve had a similar experience or even a good one at Palominos restaurant, please do not hesitate to share. Thank you for reading!

DISLAIMER – This post is in no way intended to demean or tarnish the image of the business above. It’s Just a narration of my experience.
