Tutti – Frutti Frozen Yoghurt Abuja

Hello FroYo lovers! Abuja’s Favourite Frozen Yoghurt spot is Back after quite a break. Tutti Frutti has been in Abuja for some years now and I remember wanting to try it so bad while I was in High school. I finally got to try it for the first time back in 2018 and I’ve been fan girling ever since. The frozen yoghurt spot has been closed for a while, since the lockdown i think but they recently reopened their doors to customers in 2022.

Tutti-frutti frozen Yoghurt is located at Suite B18, 112 Aminu Kano Cres, Wuse 904101, Abuja. Since the re-opening, there have been some slight modifications to the space and additions to their menu. They do not only sell Frozen yoghurt, they also have fresh fruit juices, bubble waffle FroYo, sandwiches, boba tea, yoghurt parfaits and fruit parfaits.
The space still remains as colorful as ever and have a few sitting areas where you can lounge and enjoy their products.

The space is nice, clean and comfortable. They have an indoor as well as an outdoor space. The indoor space is most suitable during the day time because it is protected from the sun.

Toppings

As always, the Frozen yoghurt still comes with yummy toppings which can be chocolate, waffles, sweets, fruits and even nuts.

FroYo

I tried the regular frozen yoghurt and also the new bubble waffle frozen yoghurt. The bubble waffle FroYo has a fixed price, while the regular FroYo is weighed on a scale to ascertain the price.

Bubble waffle FroYo – N3,500

The bubble FroYo is N3,500 for the bubble waffle + two flavors of FroYo + any topping of your choice and syrup. I chose the bubble gum and vanilla flavor topped with Oreos, Skittles and chocolate syrup. I normally do not like being spontaneous with my FroYo or ice cream flavors, I just opt for chocolate but I was glad I chose something different this time. The FroYo was tasted really nice, almost like ice cream and went perfectly with the bubble waffle. The bubble waffle was freshly made so it was warm and paired nicely with the FroYo. The bubble waffle was a little a little salty and because of the warmth, it made the FroYo melt a little faster so it was all soggy by the time I got to the end of the cup. I wish it had cooled down a little bit before it was served.

Chocolate and strawberry FroYo – N2,942

The regular FroYo was absolutely lovely! We had the Chocolate and strawberry flavors topped with Oreo and chocolate syrup and it was divine. I totally enjoyed it and I find it much more affordable than most ice cream places right now because the cup size is way bigger with free topping and syrup options, + you get almost the same taste as ice cream.

TOTAL BILL – NGN6,500 (including VAT)

General Review

Tutti – Frutti is a great Frozen yoghurt spot and is also a nice alternative for ice cream. It is affordable, cozy and is such a good place for cute dates with friends and family. I look forward to trying out their boba tea and fresh juices soon!

The Bubble tea shop Abuja

So, in my previous blog post I mentioned my next post would be about a hot new spot and here it is. (if you haven’t read it yet, go read it now!). Well, if I’m being absolutely honest, this is just one of many new spots I have in store for my followers. It is going to be back to back hot spots until the year ends!

The Bubble Tea Shop is located at the H & H food court,No 18 Blantyre street off Ademola Adetokunbo street, Wuse 2, Abuja Nigeria and it is open from 10am-7:30am on Monday’s to Saturday’s for now. The tea shop has actually been around for over a year now but at a different location. They just officially launched their new store on October 1st 2022. The tea shop specialises in Bubble tea and pastries only.

The tea shop is really beautiful, warm and cozy. The space is very adequately used and effectively fits its purpose. It is decorated with flowers, neon lights and has a mini sitting area and a service counter. The spot is mainly a grab and go spot. However, you can briefly sit and have your drink or share one with a friend. The space can fit a maximum of 6-7 people. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. They seem to also have adequate knowledge of what they serve which is really nice. The space is well lit and very insta friendly.

Initially, I wanted to have bubble tea and cinnamon rolls but the pastries were sold out for the day so I ordered the bubble tea only. I ordered the Regular Matcha milk tea and Small Chocolate Decadence Milk tea.

Regular Matcha milk tea NGN3,450

I chose the matcha milk tea because I wanted a taste of something different, normally I would play it safe and go for a more familiar flavour but I didn’t this time and I absolutely did not regret it. The matcha milk tea was made with matcha powder, milk and boba balls. It is the best matcha flavoured anything I have ever tried! It tasted almost like a matcha latte but better, it was like a tasty matcha milkshake. I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it. I savoured the entire cup until the last drop and I almost cried when it finished. I will definitely be going back for more. Now for more clarity, matcha is finely grounded powder gotten from green tea leaves. It has several health benefits and is also delicious, depending on your tastes. If you are not a fan of green tea, you probably wouldn’t enjoy this tea. If you’ve never tried matcha before and you’re open to try new things then I totally recommend this because you will enjoy it.

Small Chocolate Decadence Milk teaNGN3,050

My sister has had a couple of bad boba tea experiences so she decided to play it safe and order something with chocolate since it was our first time at the bubble tea shop. She opted for a small cup as you can see, which she later regretted of course because the tea was so freaking good. It was rich in texture, very creamy and adequately sweet. It was chocolatey but without doing too much. The tea was an absolute delight and it will definitely make it to my favourites list.

The Menu

This is the full and current menu at the tea shop, it is very affordable and I definitely think you get value for your money. They have quite the variety of milk teas and also fruit teas for my very lactose intolerant people and also people who would just like something different. The best thing about the menu is that it gives you options. You can choose to add toppings/boba and you also choose the kind of boba balls you want for your tea.

TOTAL BILL – NGN6,500 (No VAT or service charge)

General Review

The bubble tea shop is definitely a great spot. It is a total 10 if you ask me. Great tea, good service, nice ambience, lovely packaging, peaceful environment, pastries to go and it is very pocket friendly. There aren’t a lot of tea shops in Abuja. This is one of the few and they’ve got everything spot on! I’m definitely going to become a regular at the tea shop because it is accessible and affordable. I look forward to trying more bubble tea flavours.

If you have ever tried out anything from the bubble the shop, do share your opinion.

Taj Bistro, Abuja.

Hello August! Welcome to my very first blog post for the month of August. I’m super excited for this one because I got to try out a restaurant that has been on my list for a while now and also catch up with a friend. I mean, talk about good vibes August am I right! Before we get down to all the juicy details, I just wanna wish all my readers a blissful new month. It has been 7 months of consistency and I’m super proud of myself and thankful to everyone who reads, likes or supports my blog in one way or the other.

Now to the Jist of the day, Taj Bistro! Taj Bistro is an open kitchen restaurant located at NO 1 Atabara street, off Kampala street, Wuse 2, Abuja. It is a breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and bar spot that is open from 9am – 12pm daily.

The restaurant is one that has been open for quite some time now but I have always avoided it because of the amount bad reviews I’ve heard about the place. I finally decided to check it out myself because I a few engagements there and here’s all you need to know about Taj! (The good and the bad…lol)

Ambience

It is beautiful! Honestly, the restaurant space is really beautiful. From the entrance, it gives quite the impression to it’s guests. There’s a beautiful neon sign that says ‘Taj’ decorated with flowers which makes it quite an attractive picture spot. The restaurant is quite spacious and accommodating. It features a bar, shisha lounge and an open kitchen. This means that you get a direct view of the restaurant kitchen while you dine. The open kitchen is one of the largest in an Abuja restaurant. It is really cool! The restaurant can take up to 25-30 guests at once. The also have provision for special events reservations.

Pictures at Taj!

The restaurant is definitely one of the top instagrammable spots in Abuja. I had to get a couple of pictures of my friend even though he was extremely shy.

Shisha Lounge

The shisha lounge is a secluded area in the restaurant for customers who would like to chill and have a smoke. It is beautifully decorated and has large see through windows which give you a view of the city. The windows can be opened for fresh air while the customers smoke and can also be closed and transformed into a cozy indoor space. The shisha lounge decor is so beautiful and can totally pass as a cute little cafe on its own.

The Menu

The restaurant menu offers a lot of food and drink options which are mostly pricey. I love that the restaurant menu is descriptive so it gives the customer an insight on what they are about to order. The budget for this restaurant is about N10 – N15,000 per person.

Now here’s what I did not like. Due to inflation there have been some price changes which affected the pricing of the menu and the management deemed it fit to effect the changes with a correction fluid pen rather than just print a new menu. This was highly disappointing, most especially coming from a supposed fine/standard restaurant.

Food & Drinks

My friend and I had some pretty different reservations about what we wanted to eat. I opted for one of the breakfast options and he got something from the main menu. We ended up having Nutella and banana French toast, tea selection flavour box, Thai special chicken fried rice & Fresh orange juice.

Nutella Banana french Toast – N5,500

It was a hit! I enjoyed every bit of it. The Nutella and banana French toast was plated beautifully and in a very minimalistic way which I loved. I had initially expected the French toast to be served plain with a side of Nutella that I can drizzle on the toast but it came differently. Each toast was spread with Nutella and it was great. The French toast was soft, warm and not soggy. It also had a nice cinnamon flavour added to it which made it bang. Although I loved the French toast, I couldn’t help but feel it was a little bit over priced.

Thai special chicken/shrimp fried rice – N6,000

the fired rice was very colourful and packed with many delicious ingredients. It was served in acute bowl. and was quite appealing to the eyes. My first initial thought was, where’s the rest of it? This is because the portion was really small for N6,000 and a main dish. The rice was tasty, the ingredients were rightly apportioned to the rice so we enjoyed it. The rice had a sweet and savoury taste because of the pineapple added to it. The rice portion was barely satisfying so I’d advice that if you’re ordering it, you pair it with something else to get a satisfying meal.

Shortly after we had the Thai special fried rice (with chicken), my sister ordered the same thing and her own dish was not very tasteful. It was partly burnt and the rice was very dry. This left some very questionable thoughts in my head as to the meal consistency of the restaurant.

Tea selection Flavor box – N2,000

After selecting this option from the menu, I was given a range of quality tea boxes to make a choice from. I chose the cinnamon and apple tea box and it was very nice. It was served in a beautiful tea pot set with honey (my choice) for taste. You can have your tea with sugar or sweetener if you’d like. I did not regret my selection at all, I very much loved the tea and the cute aesthetic that came with it.

Orange Juice – N2,700

The orange juice was freshly squeezed and served in a nice, adequate portion.

TOTAL BILL – NGN18,225 (incl 7.5% VAT & 5% service charge)

General Review

I had swell time at Taj! I enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the space while catching up with my friend. The service was great and I mostly enjoyed the food. However, I feel like there should be a few tweaks here and there to make the restaurant better than it is. The restaurant really doesn’t have a lot of street credibility when it comes to good food and its not a very good thing. I’d say my general experience was fair and I may visit again to see if they have gotten better.

If you have ever dined at Taj Bistro, do not hesitate to share your experience with me. I’m very much interested in all the details and I’m sure other readers will be too.

Frosty Pops/Boba Pops, Abuja.

Hi guys! Today I come bearing sugar, spice and everything nice. I’m sure by now you have already seen or head about frosty pops the one and only popsicle/boba shop in Abuja. It’s basically like an ice cream shop but for popsicles.

Frosty pops launched sometime during the month of ramadan at no 1 Konoko crescent Wuse 2, Abuja. I have been dying to go there since they opened and I finally did. My experience was as colourful as the place looks.

Ambience

The ambience is absolutely colourful! The space fits perfectly for its purpose. It is vibrant, colourful and very fun. They have a few sitting areas for a quick Popsicle but nothing too serious or long term. They have a restroom for Convinence which i’m yet to check out yet but definitely will in my next visit.

Popsicles

Ou la la! they have all shades of popsicles, ranging from sweet tooth to vegan. The most interesting fact about all the popsicles is that they are all a 100% vegan and natural. The popsicles are also hand crafted, which is so cool.

The popsicles range from N1,500 to N1,800. They also have many topping options at different rates. This means you can decorate your popsicle to your satisfaction.

So far I have tried the Nutella, chocolate, strawberry(fruit), cotton candy Oreo & creamy strawberry. They all taste amazing! I must admit that the popsicles are quite addictive because you just can’t stop yourself from wanting more.

It is definitely worth a try!

Boba Pops

Unfortunately, I am still yet to try out the boba tea at frosty pops because they are always sold out anytime I go for it. I look forward to trying it out soon and updating this post.

Till then . . . xoxo

Papi grill – Restaurant, Coffee & Patisserie

I’m back again with another new spot in Abuja! I know, i know, you all have been dying to read about a new spot and that’s why i’m here to give you just that!
I found out about Papi grill through an instagram Ad and immediately i knew i had to visit and share all the juicy details. Papi grill is located at 45, Libreville Crescent Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. On the outlook, it appears like a small place but it’s actually quite spacious on the inside. I’m really excited for you to read all about it because i absolutely loved it. Scroll to read more.

Ambience

The cafe ambience is really unique. On the outside it gives Paris cafe vibes. It was decorated with beautiful rustic chairs and tables. The outdoor space is beautifully covered with canopies that keep you away from the sun during the day. There are also some lovely flowers which really add to the beauty of the space. The outdoor space gives you a view of the streets while you dine.
The indoor space is really something else. The black/brown wooden and leather interior combination is really a banger. At first you are met with a small space with bar stools and tables. When you proceed inside, there’s a bigger and more spacious room. There is also a bit of an enclosed private space that is just as pretty as the other spaces. The restaurant space is quiet and peaceful. The indoor space has large windows which gives you a view of the streets and compliments the vibe of the restaurant.

Menu

The cafe menu features quite a lot of food and drink options. I loved that they had quite the variety of starters, main dishes and desserts. They also have nice breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The menu pricing is in between affordable and expensive, depending on what you are going for.

Food & Drinks

For my food and drink, i wanted something tasty and spicy so i ordered the Penne in spicy alfredo sauce with chicken and veggies with a glass of orange juice. My sister ordered Turkish coffee with white chocolate banana bread.

Turkish coffee – NGN1,500

Before now, my sister and i had never tried Turkish coffee before so we were quite excited to try it. It was served in a cute tea pot with an option of extra honey and sugar. It was served hot & fresh so we really enjoyed it. The coffee was already mixed with milk and it tasted a bit spicy like it had some herbs or ingredients mixed in it. The coffee was unfiltered, which is apparently the way Turkish coffee is meant to be so you have to give it a good stir before drinking. I was glad they actually made a nice Turkish coffee and not a shabby mediocre attempt at one.

White chocolate Banana bread – NGN1,500

The serving of the white chocolate banana bread was actually beyond my expectation. It was beautifully served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a bit of a honey drizzle. The pairing of the banana bread with vanilla ice cream was great. The banana bread wasn’t too sweet, so the additional honey drizzle didn’t make it unbearable to eat. The banana bread itself was a bit dry and lacking moisture.

Penne in spicy alfredo sauce with chicken and veggies – NGN5,300

The penne pasta was a whole dish and more! When i saw it on the menu i thought the chicken and veggies would all be mixed together in the making of the pasta. I was surprised to see each component finely made on its own. The penne was indeed spicy, they did not lie about that! I have a very low tolerance for spicy food so it was a bit too spicy for me. Although i won’t lie, i cleared my plate because the meal was too good to not eat. I was prepared to face the consequences. The vegetables were soft and nicely cut. The vegetables had a little zesty flavor to it. The chicken on the other hand was a bit spicy as well. It was tender and tasty. All in all it was a great and very satisfying dish.

Orange juice – NGN1,500

First off, the orange juice was quite affordable so i expected the usual trend of restaurants just serving a glass of 5 alive orange juice instead of freshly squeezed orange juice. To my surprise it was actually fresh orange juice. I mean if it wasn’t, then they did a very good job of getting a nice packaged orange juice because it was really good and it tasted fresh and refreshing.

General Review

The cafe/restaurant service is really really great. It’s always very obvious when you enter a newly opened restaurant and you know they are READY! It’s not just some tight budget, unexperienced, poorly planned/managed place. Their ambience, service and food is awesome and they are most definitely off to a great start and it is really commendable. The one thing i would say doesn’t really settle well with me is the name of the place. Now the cafe is named ’Papi grill’ which automatically gives off the notion of an outdoor or grill kind of place but instead it’s not really like that. It is also a cafe/patisserie but has limited options of pastries on the menu. Kindly drop a comment or share your experience/thoughts if you visit papi grill.

The Milk shop & Agege Burger, Abuja.

In my last blog post, i mentioned ‘sizzling hot new spot’. Well, this spot is one! The milk shop & Agege burger are two incredible food vendors that have existed for quite some time now. Agege Burger was an online food vendor that Launched back in 2020. The milk shop however existed before 2020 and they had a restaurant/cafe at Kampala street.
I noticed the collaborative space/efforts sometime in January and i got super excited because i already knew that it was going to be awesome.

The cafe/restaurant is located at Left annex, Maitama amuesement park Abuja, Nigeria. It is right next to Mambaah cafe. Although they are still running a soft opening, i just had to check it out. I tried out food and drinks from the milk shop, but i wasn’t able to try anything from agege burger. I look forward to doing so next time. Here’s a full review of the shared space and the food and drinks at the milk shop.

Ambience

BLOWN!!!! i was absolutely blown away by the ambience. It looks like something straight out of a movie. On approaching the space, it looks very surreal. It is a small and cozy place made of see through glass which is covered by a shed naturally created by trees. Walking into the cafe there’s a cement walkway amidst the gravel stones which cover the floor. It is beautifully decorated with cane and wood furniture. The most incredibly creative thing about the space is the ceiling. it is not your regular PVC ceiling, rather it is made up of creative items carefully utilized to give an artistic look to the space. The space is calm, very serene and has a relaxing vibe to it. It is a great space to sit, have a cup of coffee or 5, get some work done, read a book, a tea party or book club meeting.
I am absolutely in love with this space. The combination of contemporary, modern, artistic and outdoor designs is definitely a hit.

Food

The milk shop is still running a soft opening so there was no physical menu available. The had a little display board with a few pastries listed and some on display. I already knew about the famous chicken pot pie so i went ahead to order it and a brownie that was on display.

Smoked Chicken pot pie – NGN3,500

The smoked chicken pot pie took about 40 minutes to get ready but it was really worth the wait. It was served with a slice of diagonally cut toast bread. When the pot pie was served, it was really smoking! It had a crisp crust which reveals a hot savory chicken filling. After breaking through the crust i literally had to wait for it to cool down a bit before eating. It was very tasty and satisfying. It tasted like fresh out of the oven chicken pie but in a pot…lol. The pie filling was not too spicy. It was rich and very creamy. The bread paired with the pie was just perfect and it was all round an amazing dish. I’m so glad to know that they have been able to maintain their pot pie standards all these years.

Brownie with homemade ice cream – NGN2,200

After the tasty smoked chicken pot pie, i just had to have something sweet to balance it out. The brownies costs NGN1,000 and an additional N1,200 is added when served with homemade ice cream and syrup. At first i honestly thought the brownie was way too small for N1,000 but after my first bite i realized why it cost so much. As small as it was, it was hard to finish it all because it was so satisfying. It was extremely fudgy! Literally the most fudgy brownies i have ever had. I’m not so sure i liked the homemade ice cream though. It was really icy or sweet, it tasted like whipped cream.

Drinks

There wasn’t really and drink menu available, we just asked for what the had and they told us ice tea and caramel frappe.

Caramel Frappe – NGN2,500

The caramel frappe was beautifully served. Although it was beautiful, it didn’t really hit the right notes. It was very sweet and i could barely taste the caramel or coffee in it. It was an ok drink but it could have definitely been better.

Earl grey iced tea – NGN1,500

The earl grey ice tea was nice and flavorful. At some point it got too sweet but i definitely enjoyed it. The lemon slices gave it a little edge that i loved. I kept thinking about the taste so much after i left, that it inspired me to make some at home.

General review

The milk shop & Agege burger cafe is definitely a great stop to grab a juicy bite. The space is incredibly unique and from what i’ve had so far, they have quality food. However, i do not think they are ready for dine in just yet. There is no physical menu, no readily available staff to attend to customers and so much more. For now, i think it is best for grab and go, quick eats, and to while away time. (This is subject to time of this review though, there might be some changes soon). Kindly drop your comments or tag me if you do visit The milk shop & Agege burger.

Palominos 24-hour restaurant.

It was one of those early Saturday mornings and i had quite a number of appointments starting from 8am. So i rushed out of the house early and didn’t eat anything. After my first appointment i decided to stop by one of the restaurants i’ve had my eye on for quite sometime. It is a 24-hour restaurant so i was sure they would be open. It is located at Plot 367 cappdor galaxy mall Abuja, Nigeria.
I have been dragging my feet writing this review because it ended with mixed feelings. Scroll down to read the full jist.

Ambience

The restaurant ambience was cool, neat and welcoming. The indoor space is quite small and can only sit a few people. It had a counter with pastry displays for the day, Large windows so you can get a view of the city and a small restroom for Convinence. The coolest part about the interior was the cute swing chair with a marble background. It was cute, but i wasn’t so sure about the weight capacity.

The outdoor space was nice and refreshing, it really gave a natural feel and you get a scenery of the road, trees and nature. Although i would say, it may be more suitable in the evening or at night.

The menu

The restaurant menu is very affordable, it can fit a budget of N6,000 for two. The menu holds a number of sweet and savory options. It also offers breakfast/snack/brunch and dinner options. They have cold and hot drink options as well (although half of it wasn’t available when i asked). One thing that turned me off with the menu was the fact that the menu had some corrections done on it with a pen which just seemed distasteful to me. I mean, i totally understand that prices are a bit unstable at the moment but there are honestly better ways to do things like this.

The food

For my breakfast i ordered the pancake stack served with strawberries and my sister ordered a chicken shawarma.

Pancake stack – NGN2,500

The pancakes took about 30minutes to arrive, which was a long time for just 3 very small pancakes. Other ingredients on the plate were ready made so i didn’t think it should take that long. When the pancakes arrived, i thought the portion was too small but then it also dawned on me that it costs N2,500 so heyy…. nothing to complain about right ? I dived right in because i was really hungry and the first thing that happened was a syrup attack. Let me explain, The pancakes were beautifully plated, and i’m a heavy syrup kind of girl so i immediately went ahead to drizzle syrup on my pancakes. What i didn’t stop to think of or realize was that these pancakes were served on on flat plate and as i tried to put syrup on it and it flowed right off the plate to the table and almost poured on my outfit. I immediately had to stop everything and start cleaning it up with paper towels. That happened and i just went on to eat my pancakes with little to no syrup. I’m so used to syrup that i just couldn’t continue without it, so i decided to add a little more, but tactically this time. As i did that, i noticed some kind of particles which was weird because i don’t know of any maple syrup with particles and i stopped to look further and realized they were not particles but ’ANTS’ i had to pause and call on the waiter to show him, so he can see the ants for himself and he was like oh no! it must have been a mistake let me us tissue to remove them from your plate and i was STUNNED!!!!!!! i was like is he joking right now? This is how he resolves dead ants being in a customers food? I was honestly just short of words and i realized it’s really not his fault. He is definitely not properly trained by his employer(s). I just shook my head and left it at that. I was honestly shocked and disheartened.

Chicken Shawarma – NGN1,500

Unlike the pancake saga, the shawarma was nice. It was very juicy, the chicken was tastefully seasoned and it was medium sized(very ok for the price). However, it was served wrapped in a foil which didn’t make sense to me because it wasn’t for take out. Why not chop it into 2 and serve on the board without being wrapped? I wasn’t so surprised to be honest because my expectations had already dropped to 0. I had to slice it into 2 myself to get a good and insightful image on it.

Drinks

I ordered the mixed fruit smoothie(small) and my sister had a sprite (soft drink).

Mixed fruit smoothie (small) – NGN2,000

The mixed fruit smoothie was honestly very nice. It contained watermelon, orange, pineapple, red apples, banana and ginger. My favourite thing about it was the taste of ginger. It was the single unproblematic thing about the restaurant.

Sprite – NGN300

TOTAL BILL – NGN6,300

General review

I left this restaurant dissatisfied and with a heavy sigh. First of all, i think it shouldn’t be called a restaurant, it should be called a cafe. Secondly, i cannot overemphasize the importance of properly trained staff and good customer service. Bad service and undertrained staff can really take a toll on a business no matter how good the food is. I mean the food is good and it is affordable, but with the quality of service, i doubt if i would ever be returning. The sad thing is that, after sharing a few pictures on my instagram page quite a number of people have narrated different unfortunate encounters at the restaurant. It cannot be a bad day or a coincidence. They need to do better if they want to stay in business.
If you’ve had a similar experience or even a good one at Palominos restaurant, please do not hesitate to share. Thank you for reading!

DISLAIMER – This post is in no way intended to demean or tarnish the image of the business above. It’s Just a narration of my experience.

Pink bear Ng | Your favourite little cafe

I had the cutest little solo date at the prettiest little cafe last week and it was awesome!

Pink bear cafe is a cute new cafe located at shop 12, 141 adetokunbo ademola crescent wuse 2 Abuja, Nigeria. I noticed it a while back when i was shopping at the plaza. I knew something was going on there but i didn’t know what it was, until boom! one day the pink walls caught my attention.

Here’s a review of my pink bear experience ;

Ambience

The cafe is so cute and cozy. It has large windows which really adds to the lighting of the place, the cafe is mostly pink so its hard to not admire every inch of it. My favourite part was the pink little spot by the window and the coffee tree mural on the wall. I like that particular spot because it gives you a view of the window and its quite secluded and comfortable. The place is quite small and can barely sit up to 30 people at once so its best for take outs, lunch breaks or a quick bite.

The menu

For a small cafe their menu is quite big. Normally most cafes this size sell only pastries, but pink bear is different. The have a variety of options on their menu. They have salads, pasta, pancakes, pastries, sandwiches and more. For their drinks, they have water, different types of teas, including bubble tea. Interestingly, they also have alcoholic bubble tea.

The food

I didn’t try out any savory dishes, i just went straight to the pastries pastries displayed because it just felt right at the time.
I ordered a cinnamon roll, red velvet cake slice and a chocolate cake slice.

Red velvet cake slice – N1,700

Typically, i’m not a huge fan of red velvet cake. Its really nice and i enjoy it, but its not always my first pick. Something about this cake slice was calling my name and i had to get it. Well, it turned out to be one of the best red velvet cake slices I’ve ever had! It was so creamy, moist and rich. I honestly never knew red velvet cake could taste so good. I loved it.

Chocolate cake slice – N1,500

Chocolate flavored anything would always have a space in my heart. This was no different. It was very fudgey, moist and really really chocolatey. The best part about it was that the chocolate cake was that it was really yummy and it didn’t have a lot of sugar in it.

Cinamon roll – N900

The cinnamon roll was actually the first thing to catch my attention. It was quite small, but really really nice. Definitely one of the best i’ve had.

Drink

I wasn’t really in the mood for bubble tea so i decided to try the caramel milk tea.

Caramel milk tea (small – N2,400)

The caramel milk tea was too sweet. It wasn’t really creamy and i could barely taste the caramel in it. I didn’t really enjoy it honestly.

Total bill – NGN6,500

General review

The pink bear cafe is really cute and cozy. One of the distinct things i loved about it was that they had some cute brand merch for sale. I haven’t tired out a lot of the things on their menu yet, but from what i have, i can say they have really good pastries. I would definitely be visiting soon to try out more items on their menu.

Tea charme – My first bubble tea experience

For those who do not already know, bubble tea is a special kind of tea/drink that has its origin from Taiwan. It is made with boba balls, which can also be called tapioca balls. The boba balls are kind of soft and chewy in nature. Now as a Nigerian local who has never been to Taiwan before, I obviously have never tried it before. However, I’ve had tapioca a number of times before. I have always fancied bubble tea but I never really knew where to get it because I obviously wasn’t going to Taiwan anytime soon and Nigeria is nowhere near Taiwan. Luckily for me there have been some improvements with different food franchises coming to Abuja. Restaurants now are more focused on bringing in something new/foreign to customers so there’s a lot of room to try out different cuisines other than what we are already used to here.

I have actually noticed a growing number of bubble tea vendors here in Abuja (which I’ll definitely be trying out soon). I decided to try tea charme first because I just kinda felt like it would be coming from an authentic Taiwanese source and not just someone trying to Mimic something they’ve had. Although it might actually be the case but I really don’t think so.

Tea charme is a cute little take out tea shop that not only sells bubble tea but also coffee, drinks and ice cream. As a take out spot, there is obviously no sitting area. I would have honestly preferred it if they had like a little space where you can sit and wait for your order most especially because of the sun. Your only options if you have to wait are; sitting in your car, standing for as long as it takes for your order to get ready or climbing up to the charme restaurant upstairs which in my opinion is not very wise because there’s no means of knowing if your order is ready.

Their menu is quite big for a small take out shop, but I love the fact that it gives you a variety of options including non-dairy options.

What does bubble tea taste like?

Well, to answer the question we’ve all been dying to know, It tastes like a nice milkshake with boba in it. I ordered the medium sized chocolate dirty tea (because when I’m not sure I go with the safest, most delicious option – CHOCOLATE!) It cost NGN2,300. I initially wanted to order the milk bubble it but someone said it wasn’t rich and creamy enough.

The chocolate dirty tea was honestly delicious! I wanted to finish it in a single sip. It was very rich and creamy. I got carried away sipping and forgot about the boba at the bottom of the cup so when a single bubble slipped into my mouth I almost screamed that there was a giant bug in my tea but the it was chewy so I immediately remembered what I was having. The boba at the bottom if the tea were not too soft and sticky neither were they hard to chew. I must add though, that I do not think the boba adds any special kind of flavour to the tea. I think its just there for chewy purposes.

I definitely loved it, and I can’t wait to try out more flavours and most probably more vendors too.
