G Burger by Galaxy

Hey foodies, here is a short and delicious review that will come in handy if you are a burger or milkshake lover. G burger is a new burger place opened recently by the owners of one of my favourite pizza places here in Abuja. They serve a nice range of delicious burgers, milkshakes, fries, ice cream and coffee. Their menu is concise and affordable, you can visit with a N3,000-N8,000 budget for 1.

The Ambience

The Ambience was quite nice, very fast food like. There was a counter for ice cream and one for burgers. They had a nice sitting area, that can sit up about 30-50 people. I loved the large windows that gives you a view of the road and what’s going on outside. They also had a single bathroom. It is a nice place to get your cravings satisfied, have a quick casual meeting or even enjoy your lunch break.

Service

The service was very fast and efficient. Our burger meals took less than 20 minutes to get ready and it was quite surprising because we ordered 3 burgers, 2 portions of fries and 2 milkshakes.

The food

The burger meals were so GOOD and honestly quite affordable. I ordered the ; house beef burger, house chili burger, 2 portion of French fries, strawberry milkshake & Nutella milkshake. I initially wanted chili cheese fries but as i got there i just wanted to stuff food in my face as quickly as possible to satisfy my cravings and i forgot about it and got regular fries. Here’s a taste of what i had;
House beef burger – N1,700

The house beef burger is a regular beef patty burger. It was juicy and the bun was quite soft. There was nothing too special about it, but it was great.

House chili cheese burger – N2,100

The house chili burger, tasted like the house burger but better. It seemed to have a lot more ingredients a lot more spice. It was quite hot but not too much to make it extremely spicy or undesirable. It was just right.

A portion of French fries- N1,000

The fries were just regular, Although i total loved how crispy it was.

Strawberry milkshake – N1,800

I tried the strawberry milkshake first and i was absolutely blown away. I sincerely do not know the right words to use because it was so good and i have never had any milkshake like that before. One thing i can say is that it is very very rich and totally worth the price. You just have to try it to understand what i mean.

Nutella milkshake – N2,300

As a chocolate lover, i didn’t think twice about ordering the Nutella milkshake because you just can’t go wrong with chocolate. Well, i was not wrong! I thought i was impressed by the strawberry milkshake but the Nutella milkshake totally blew my hat off. It is definitely one of the best Milkshakes i have had in Abuja, No cap!

G burger is now my new Milkshake plug!

Palm ave restaurant

Hi guys, it’s yet another week with another solo date at a nice, low key restaurant in the city of Abuja. I’m not even going to lie, i am really enjoying these solo dates because its breath of fresh air from the usual chaos and interaction with people during the week days.

Palm ave is a new restaurant that has been running for a couple of months now. It is located at Riverplate garden opposite BMO events center wuse II, Abuja. The restaurant is interestingly open from 11:00am – 3:00am daily.

Ambience

The restaurant interior is super cool! Like, you know those dark interior designs you drool over on instagram but cant have? well this is it! A lot of restaurants always shy away from dark colored interior for some reason but palm ave is not one of them. I admire the bold choice of dark, yet attractive colors in the decor, it definitely makes it stand out from most restaurants here in Abuja. Another thing to love about palm ave are the large windows, it feels like you’re in a glass house and its just so lovely. It gives you a view of the park which gives a calming effect. During the day, the restaurant is vibrant, cozy and calming. At night, it switches up to this really cool, dark and relaxing place to just vibe and enjoy good food.

The restaurant to gives off a type of vibe that cant really be explained(in a good way), you just have to experience it.

Palm ave at night

The menu

The restaurant menu is quite concise because its a soft opening menu. It features mostly sweet dishes and quite a number of savory dishes as well. They serve both hot and cold drinks. There are no alcoholic drink options on the menu and the dishes are all Halal. One thing i loved about the menu was that each dish/drink had a little description of what it entails which kinda gives you and idea of what you are going to be served.

The restaurant also serves shisha outdoors which is not captured on the menu but it costs NGN3,000.

The food

For my meal i had the cinnamon bae waffles. The thing with me is that when there are sweet options on a menu, i always pick it over savory dishes. These waffles were actually recommended by the owner and i must say he did not lie when he said i would enjoy it because i absolutely Loved it!
The cinnamon bae waffles cost NGN3,500, it was topped with powdered sugar, white chocolate and milk chocolate. On the menu it stated it will be topped with crushed maltesers which i sadly didn’t get even though i enjoyed the waffles.

The waffles were soft and warm. It was very rich, as such it was quite filling. You can instantly tell that a lot of thought went into the dish because despite all the sweet ingredients on the plate, the dish still wasn’t too sweet. It was quite perfect really, i low key licked my plate, lol.

The Drink

I ordered the strawberry mojito and it cost NGN2,500. After my first sip of the strawberry mojito i was like broooooooo what is in this? does it contain actual strawberries? because hmmmm. The drink was sweet, but the lime and mint leaves toned down the sweetness and gave it a nice balance. The portion of the drink was surprisingly large for the price. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone visiting the restaurant because its a banger.

TOTAL BILL – NGN6,450

General review

Palm ave restaurant is honestly quite distinct from what we usually have here in Abuja. It is very chill and the environment is serene and relaxing. It is clearly a restaurant that is open to everyone but not for everyone…if you know what i mean. The restaurant is also very affordable and it’s a very good place for solo dates, lunch dates and probably a dinner date pending what you like.
I would definitely be visiting again because i generally like the serene vibe and i want to try out savory options from their menu.

Pink bear Ng | Your favourite little cafe

I had the cutest little solo date at the prettiest little cafe last week and it was awesome!

Pink bear cafe is a cute new cafe located at shop 12, 141 adetokunbo ademola crescent wuse 2 Abuja, Nigeria. I noticed it a while back when i was shopping at the plaza. I knew something was going on there but i didn’t know what it was, until boom! one day the pink walls caught my attention.

Here’s a review of my pink bear experience ;

Ambience

The cafe is so cute and cozy. It has large windows which really adds to the lighting of the place, the cafe is mostly pink so its hard to not admire every inch of it. My favourite part was the pink little spot by the window and the coffee tree mural on the wall. I like that particular spot because it gives you a view of the window and its quite secluded and comfortable. The place is quite small and can barely sit up to 30 people at once so its best for take outs, lunch breaks or a quick bite.

The menu

For a small cafe their menu is quite big. Normally most cafes this size sell only pastries, but pink bear is different. The have a variety of options on their menu. They have salads, pasta, pancakes, pastries, sandwiches and more. For their drinks, they have water, different types of teas, including bubble tea. Interestingly, they also have alcoholic bubble tea.

The food

I didn’t try out any savory dishes, i just went straight to the pastries pastries displayed because it just felt right at the time.
I ordered a cinnamon roll, red velvet cake slice and a chocolate cake slice.

Red velvet cake slice – N1,700

Typically, i’m not a huge fan of red velvet cake. Its really nice and i enjoy it, but its not always my first pick. Something about this cake slice was calling my name and i had to get it. Well, it turned out to be one of the best red velvet cake slices I’ve ever had! It was so creamy, moist and rich. I honestly never knew red velvet cake could taste so good. I loved it.

Chocolate cake slice – N1,500

Chocolate flavored anything would always have a space in my heart. This was no different. It was very fudgey, moist and really really chocolatey. The best part about it was that the chocolate cake was that it was really yummy and it didn’t have a lot of sugar in it.

Cinamon roll – N900

The cinnamon roll was actually the first thing to catch my attention. It was quite small, but really really nice. Definitely one of the best i’ve had.

Drink

I wasn’t really in the mood for bubble tea so i decided to try the caramel milk tea.

Caramel milk tea (small – N2,400)

The caramel milk tea was too sweet. It wasn’t really creamy and i could barely taste the caramel in it. I didn’t really enjoy it honestly.

Total bill – NGN6,500

General review

The pink bear cafe is really cute and cozy. One of the distinct things i loved about it was that they had some cute brand merch for sale. I haven’t tired out a lot of the things on their menu yet, but from what i have, i can say they have really good pastries. I would definitely be visiting soon to try out more items on their menu.

Amazonia Restaurant | A taste of something new

Hi guys! so sometime last month i visited the famous rainforest restaurant and did a review of their food and space. It was beautiful indeed. In October, they reached out to me stating that they would be launching a new menu and would love to have me over for a food tasting. I was excited of course because i already knew it would entail exciting new dishes.

For one little reason or the other i almost missed it and even though i was able to be present i was a tad bit late and missed some of the dishes served. I was still able to get a taste of majority of the dishes served. Here are some of the dishes i tried ;

Tuna Tostadas

This definitely made my top 3 dishes. It was kind of like an open taco, and also looked like pizza. It was cut into slices, so to eat it you have to pull out a slice and eat it. It’s quite a mess to eat but definitely really delicious.

Fish cakes

Hmmmmm! i have a lot of thoughts about these fish cakes. They were deep fried and kind of tasted like egg rolls, but fish. At first i tried just the fish cakes without the dressing and the dip and i did not enjoy it. Later on, the chef came and did his thing, explained the entire dish and i tried it all together and loved it. It’s actually a very very interesting dish. The mixed vegetables you see in the picture also included pineapples, which added a natural sweetness to the taste. The dip was an avocado dip. Now, i don’t mean guacamole. I mean mayonnaise, but avocado. Get it?

Sweet Potato Disco Fries

Amazeballs! First of all, i loved that this wasn’t basic Irish potatoes, it was sweet potato and it had a lot going on mehn. It had mixed bell peppers, cheese, tomato sauce and i think minced meat as well. It was fantastic, but my stomach was already getting full so i didn’t have much of it. It’s November and I’m still thinking about it.

Sesame Fried rice

Uhhhh this baby is definitely in my top 3 list. I think i ate the biggest portion from this rice. I love loved it! It was not overly seasoned or cooked and it was colorful as well. I totally recommend.

Szechuan Fish Sauce

Remember my top 3 list? this made the cut too. I didn’t think much of it at first, because my brain was like nahh, this looks black, it will not be sweet. Well, it definitely proved me wrong because it was totally delicious and i loved it. It was the famous giwan ruwa fish in Szechuan sauce (whatever that is) served with vegetables.

Szechuan Spiced Fish

Another giwan ruwa fish, another plate of deliciousness. Just like the Szechuan fish sauce, the Szechuan spiced fish was also delicious as well. Slightly even better i might add. Although we had it on it’s own, it seemed like something to be paired with a side dish (maybe a certain delicious sesame fried rice… hehehehehe)

 Miso Stir Fried Ribeye

All stir fry’s are amazing, PERIOD! This one wasn’t any different. I loved the crunchy veggies, as always. The ribeye tasted nice also. Just like the Szechuan spiced fish, it also needs to be paired with a side…*wink wink*

Green Chilli Rigatoni

Well, just like the name of the dish, it was green. Not very inviting to eat if you ask me. My brain just went omg its green… nahhhh. It wasn’t all that bad really, just that the fact that it was green didn’t entice me. It has chicken, which i loved, the texture was great but the dish wasn’t really for me. The chef said it’s not the type of dish to entice you at first, but it’s one that grows on you. This was true, once i started eating it, i couldn’t stop.

Caramel apple

What’s a great food tasting without dessert right? The caramel apple dessert was the last thing served and it put a great finish to a beautiful tasting. It was beautiful as you can see and it tasted as good as it looked. The sponge cake was perfect!

General review

The new dishes on the Amazonia menu are colorful, delicious and top notch. As usual it’s nothing short of an excellent fine dining experience. I would love to commend Amazonia for always doing their best to stand out and serve the best. Big Kudos to chef Eskay as well for whipping up such delicious meals. It was truly an exciting and learning experience. I look forward to sharing more food tasting experiences with my readers.

If you visit Amazonia and try any of the dishes mentioned, don’t forget to let me know about your experience.

Alamala Abuja | Abuja’s top Àmàlà spot.

Àmàlà is an indigenous Nigerian meal, known to the Yoruba ethnic group of Nigeria. It is made out of yam or cassava flour. It is mostly served with Ewedu and gbegiri soups, which is paired with all kinds of assorted proteins.

Alamala is a new spot in the city of Abuja, specialized in selling yummy Amala. It is located at no 40 durban street, Wuse II Abuja, Nigeria.

Alamala is a small pick up stand with a mini sitting area where you can wait for your order or quickly have your meal.

They have a limited menu, that offers only Àmàlà, Ewedu, gbegiri, proteins, soft drinks and water. The menu however give you an option to build your bowl to your heart’s content. The pricing of the food however doesn’t cover the cost of packaging. Packaging charge is separate.

A taste of Alamala

SPICY!!! That’s how it tasted. The Àmàlà was served hot in a nice kraft bowl, and also served on time as well. My order didn’t take long at all. I opted for the ’happy bowl’ which is the full Àmàlà a meal with assorted proteins. It tasted really nice and had that hot Yoruba pepper flair, it was spicy but not too hot to handle. It had just the right amount of deliciousness. I definitely enjoyed myself and i’ll be going back for more.

General review

I absolutely love the innovation of putting Àmàlà in a kraft bowl. I mean its quite bougie but they didn’t fail to deliver the indigenous originality of the meal which i liked because in the end it all balls down to the taste of the meal. Alamala is quite affordable, offers great service and serves delicious Àmàlà. It is definitely a worthy Àmàlà plug in Abuja.

Do not forget to share your experience at alamala with me, if you visit. It will go a long way in helping others enjoy their own experience.

The brunch club | All day brunch restaurant.

The brunch club is a brand new restaurant located at No. 45 gana street maitama Abuja, Nigeria. It is a cozy all day brunch restaurant that serves brunch meals from 9am – 10pm daily. They are currently running a soft opening, this simply means that they are not fully opened to the generally public yet, the restaurant is only open to a few people.
I had the pleasure of brunching at the restaurant with my sister and here’s how it all went down.

The Ambience

The brunch club is quite beautiful and peaceful, it’s located in a little corner with quite adequate parking space. It is very cozy with large windows which makes the space beautifully lit. It has some Paris/French type of vibe indoors and Greece/island vibes on the outside. An interesting thing about the brunch club space is the circular booth. The booths are beautifully decorated, well lit and properly ventilated. It is great for pictures and privacy as well.

The menu

The restaurant menu is quite concise. It features a range of salads, pastas, desserts, all day breakfast options, sandwiches and more. They also have a number of cold drinks, teas and coffee.

The food

For my brunch i wanted something sweet and also spicy so i ordered soufflé pancakes and brunched jollof.

SOUFFLÉ PANCAKES – NGN4,000

If you didn’t already know a soufflé pancake is a special kind of Japanese pancake, that is soft, fluffy and jiggly. For some reason i expected disappointment, i thought i would have just regular pancakes because Nigerian restaurants have a habit of putting names of dishes they can’t actually make, just to seem fancy. To my surprise, i was actually served steaming hot Japanese soufflé pancakes with whipped cream, blueberries and syrup. The pancakes were super fluffy and tasty. I literally wanted to stuff it all in my mouth but i couldn’t because my stomach was full only half way through eating. It was absolutely yummy and satisfying. The only downside to ordering the pancake was the preparation time. It took almost an hour before we got served. The staff were courteous enough to keep us updated until it was ready and also apologize for the delay.

BRUNCHED JOLLOF – NGN5,500

The brunched jollof is a jollof rice, peppered turkey and fried plantain combo. This combo is IT!! Like! authentic Nigerian jollof, made with palm oil, crayfish, iru (locust beans), atarodo and so much more. It was honestly delicious. The turkey was also very nice, juicy and tender. The portion was adequate. Not too small and not too much. I loved it!

The drinks

It has been a while i had milkshakes so i decided to have milkshakes. I ordered the brunch lotus shake and strawberry shake.

BRUNCH LOTUS SHAKE – NGN3,500

The lotus shake was perfect. It was creamy and not too sweet. It has a vanilla, caramel and Lotus biscoff taste. At the end of the milkshake, there were some lotus biscoff biscuit particles at the bottom which i lowkey liked.

STRAWBERRY SHAKE – NGN3,000

The strawberry shake was pretty and it was topped with whipped cream. It didn’t really taste like it had any strawberries and it was too sweet. I didn’t really enjoy it.

Total bill – NGN18,562

Total bill includes VAT and service charges.

General service review

The brunch club is nice in general. They have a beautiful space, peaceful environment, with good food. Their staff need a little more training however, they are still a bit confused and unfamiliar with everything. It’s something they need to work on that before they are fully open. Another thing they need to work on is the consistency of their food. I’ve heard some conflicting reviews about their food, some people have had wonderful meals, while others have had terrible meals. Finally, as at the time i visited, they didn’t have a POS, so if you are the kind to not move with cash, be sure to carry some cash or be able to make a transfer to pay for your food.
Do not forget to share your experience with me if you visit, it’ll mean a lot to me and also help others reading this post.

Amazonia Restaurant | Nigeria’s first rainforest themed restaurant.

Have you ever been to a Rainforest? No? well me neither, but today we are going to take that journey together! Grab your drinks and hold your horses because its about to get freaky in here.
Amazonia is a brand new rainforest themed restaurant situated at No. 7 Hombori street, Wuse 2, Abuja. (same location with Discovery museum,Escape room and Lagos Bistro). It’s a pretty splendid environment with fairly adequate parking spaces. They do offer a Valet service which is quite nice and uncommon in most restaurants here in Abuja. The restaurant accepts Walk in’s and reservations, but they prefer reservation though. So before you visit, make a reservation.

Here’s a detailed review of my visit to Amazonia;

The Ambience

“MY OH MY” that’s the phrase! The res ambience is amazing. Nothing like you’ve ever seen before. it features different shades of vibrant colors, wall murals, bamboo sticks and lots and lots of flowers, plants .etc. The walls were designed to look like a real rainforest with water flowing through the leaves. It is really cool! The tables had digital screens which display different nature images which gives you an actual feeling of the rainforest. The atmosphere is kinda cool, relaxing and had a very very natural feeling for an indoor space. It has a dim and warm kind of lighting which adds to the whole rainforest vibe. They also have a mini outdoor space which is actually enclosed but definitely looks like an open out door space. It had a few tables and bar like stools, it also had a lot of plants which gave it a little forest vibe.
The restaurant also has a new space which was currently been set up when i visited. It is a private dining space for small events which also embodies the theme of the main restaurant.

The Menu

The restaurant menu is not your typical conventional Nigerian menu. It features a lot of mouth watering dishes which are mostly seafood based and some of which i’m not sure i pronounced right. The meals are quite expensive to be very honest. The cheapest items on the food menu are the sides, which cost NGN3,500. I totally forgot to get a picture of the drinks menu but the drinks were pricey as well.

The food & Drinks

For the food, My sister and i had the Napolitana pasta and tacos.

NAPOLITANA PASTA – NGN7,500

The Napolitana pasta was a mix of spicy Neapolitan sauce and shrimp. I specifically asked them to make my pasta a little less spicy because i didn’t want anything really spicy. The pasta plating was a 10 i must say and the taste was equally great. The pasta was not to spicy, it was just right like i requested. It wasn’t dry which i really loved, it had the neapolitan sauce still dripping off it. The shrimps were quite big and they weren’t stingy at all. It was definitely worth it’s price.

TACO- NGN7,500

It was delicious! Unfortunately it was quite small for N7,500. I mean, i was expecting more that i was served but i just got two. The taco was described on the Menu as a Crispy squid and shrimp combo in a crispy taco sheet with gochujang and miso mayo but neither the squid nor taco sheet were crispy. However, they nailed the miso mayo and that’s what made it delicious.

Drinks

FLAMINGO – NGN3,200

The flamingo drink was a pineapple juice, cranberry juice, lemon juice and simple syrup combo. It was beautifully served and tasted nice. It was too sweet and it had a sour-ish lemony taste which i enjoyed. I didn’t at any point of sipping taste any cranberry juice though. It tasted more like lemon and pineapple juice.

PASSION FRUIT MARTINI – NGN3,500

The passion fruit Martini was a passion fruit syrup, lemon juice, grapefruit juice, simple syrup, egg white and sprite combo. I honestly did not enjoy it. It didn’t taste as good as the flamingo drink.

TAKEAWAY

My sister and i couldn’t finish up the food we ordered so we decided to get takeaway for later. Takeaway meals cost an extra charge of N400 each. The take away bags were really cute so i had to take a picture.

Total bill – NGN25,762.50

*Total bill includes VAT and service charges*

General Review

Asides the fact the Amazonia restaurant is stunning, the second amazing thing about it is the customer service. Their customer service is TOP NOTCH. Their staff a very kind, well mannered, properly dressed and professional. They are will to go to far lengths to make sure customers are satisfied and it’s absolutely wonderful. I totally recommend Amazonia restaurant for anyone who loves seafood, fine dining and new/interesting experiences. I had a wonderful time and i will definitely be visiting again soon.

Please do not forget to tag me on instagram if you visit and share your experience.

Work and Connect | A fusion of work and food

Hi guys! It has obviously been a minute since my last blog post and I know y’all have missed this because I know I have too. I’m super excited to be making this my return blog post because it is packed with the most juicy features. Now this is not your regular food blog post, it is so much more than that.

Work and connect is a hybrid model enterprise support organisation located at Number 50, Ebitu Ewe street, Jabi, Abuja that holistically builds capacity, supports growth of youth led businesses, innovation-driven entrepreneurs and accelerating MSME’s. To break down all that English, Work and connect is simply an organisation that offers unique services like co-working spaces, shared desks, business bars, offices etc for rent. The work and connect space also features a conference hall, gym, lounge and restaurant. This means that as a creative, innovative young entrepreneur like myself who cannot afford to own my own organisation, I can easily rent a work friendly and innovative space which offers me WIFI, business address, telephone services, a singe display advertising my small business and training rooms for my small team where I can conveniently carry out all my work, hold my meetings and training sessions at a very affordable rate. How COOL is that??? Well you might think that’s all but nahhh, there’s also one more awesome thing, FOOD is just one call away. Work and connect has a restaurant named Connect Bistro & grill located in the same building that is open to the general public and not just members of work and connect alone.

Here’s a breakdown of the services offered by work and connect and a review of Connect Bistro –

WORK AND CONNECT – Full review

Like I have stated earlier, work and connect is an organisation that offers co-working spaces, dedicated desks, business bars for rent. The work and connect organisation is a tastefully designed both indoors and outdoors. The co-working space is located on the ground floor together with the restaurant. It has some really cool features like a kitchenette that offers free coffee, free WIFI, a lounge where you can take aa break from work, a locker storage for your personal belongings, a male and female bathroom and an interesting phone booth. The phone both is a private, sound proof space where members of the co-working space can make phone calls without disturbing other members, it also features a charging port that makes it even cooler. It is honestly one of the most thoughtful things I’ve ever since in a co-working space. The co-working spaces goes for NGN2,150 daily. Weekly and monthly subscriptions are also available at affordable rates as well.

Other parts of the work and connect organisation also include training rooms, offices, lounge, gym, meeting rooms, board rooms, meeting rooms and a mosque. The offices are of different packages. They have basic offices, standard offices, and executive offices. The basic office package comes with a desk and a chair, the standard offices are slightly bigger than the basic offices and also include a sofa, the executive offices on the other hand are ensuite. It offers a a larger office space and also a personal bathrooms. The training rooms, meeting rooms, and board rooms all have different set ups, pending your particular need or desire.

A notably distinctive feature of the work and connect organisation from other existing organisations of the same nature is that it has a male and female mosque. The mosque is located in a secluded area on the first floor that creates privacy of worship for muslim members of the organisation.

Connect Bistro and Grill – Full review

Ambience

The connect bistro and grill has an interestingly different vibe and decor as opposed to what we are normally used to seeing. The connect bistro and grill space fully depicts the whole work and dine concept. It features a lot of bright, popping colours and attractive writings on the walls. An interesting thing bout the bistro is that they have cute notes on the walls written by customers about their experience at the bistro.

Food/Drinks/Menu

First off, I just have to say that the connect bistro menu is really affordable. It offers a very wide range of local and international dishes which are reasonably priced. They also serve a variety of cold and hot drinks. This means that if you work around Jabi axis, connect bistro is a great place to spend your lunch break. This is because, you can get a large option of food to eat, free wifi, a chilled space, an option of indoor of outdoor dining, and also a great opportunity to connect with other creative, brilliant minded individuals.

For my meal, I had ;

Lunch time chicken sauce – NGN2,600

The lunch time chicken sauce was the highlight of my lunch at connect Bistro. My favourite thing about it were the child paper flakes and the mixed vegetables. It was bomb without the rice and also bomb with the rice as well. You can order the lunch time chicken sauce alone, or pair it with a different side dish. Either way, it is really tasty!

Vegetable rice – NGN800

The vegetable rice was awesome! It was packed with many vegetable that were vey tastefully cut. The vegetable portion did not outweigh the rice, which was really nice. Everything was adequately portioned. I also loved the serving dish of the rice. The only sad thing about the vegetable rice was that the general portion was small. I wanted moreeeeeeee. Although it was small it was surprisingly satisfying. By the time I was done eating, I could barely move because my stomach was really full.

Hustlers chapman – NGN1,300

The chapman was great. It tasted nice, just like every order chapman.

General Comment

I seriously admire the work and connect organisation because of its innovative and forward thinking policies. It is an incredible, modern innovation that is super beneficial to small entrepreneurs, creatives, freelancers and also a great place to expand your network in general. It is truly an all round, fantastic organisation with really affordable packages that have great benefits.

Krispy Kreme – Best doughnuts ever!

Hi guys! so I know I’m a little late on posting this review but you know what they say, It’s better late than never. I was initially reluctant to write this blog post because I knew it was going to be short but I decided to share it anyway because y’all just needed to read about my experience.

Nearly a month ago, my sisters and I decided to go on a last minute vacation (we called it Eid-cation lol) because it was just about two days before Eid celebrations. So, because we took the trip to cool off, I promised myself I wouldn’t be doing any work, business, blog & content related things. However, deep down I knew the foodie in me won’t let that happen but hey! at least I tried right?

Krispy Kreme was the final icing on top my perfect Eid-cation. It was conveniently located at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed Aiport Lagos (MMA2) Ikeja. Before getting to the full details of the delicious doughnuts I’d like to first of all applaud Krispy Kreme’s customer service because it was super efficient. There’ll be more details on this at the bottom of the post.

Krispy kreme Lagos Nigeria
gos nigeria

The Doughnuts!

First of all it might help to know that in Nigeria Krispy Kreme shops can only be found in Lagos. They have about 4-5 outlets around the city. However I have heard from a little birdie that they’ll finally be opening an outlet for the people of the buj’ (Abuja).

Now, let’s talk doughnuts! They have about 3 variant sizes of doughnuts(from what I saw). The regular sized doughnuts, mini doughnuts and doughnut holes. The regular sized doughnuts cost NGN600 each and NGN3,400 for half a dozen. The mini doughnuts cost NGN4,200 for a box of 16 doughnuts. It is also worthy to note that asides from doughnuts, they also sell hot and cold beverages which I couldn’t try unfortunately because they weren’t available at the time. There are also a couple of Krispy Kreme merch available at the store.

I ordered half a dozen doughnuts (NGN3,400) with the following combinations ;

  • Coconut ring – This was an automatically instinctive selection. Anytime I order doughnuts from a new place, I always go for coconut flavour because I feel like you can’t go wrong with it. I was right because it was delicious! It was the first I tried and I couldn’t believe it. It was so rich, extremely soft, like really really soft because it felt like I was biting into foam. The coconut shavings were a great + because it made everything just perfect.

  • Crunchy peanut butter – The crunchy peanut butter doughnut was really yummy. It was all round peanut. Definitely not for someone with a peanut allergy but I loved it. It was different and quite frankly my first time ever trying out a peanut butter doughnut.

  • Original glazed – I couldn’t leave Krispy kreme without trying the world famous original glazed crispy kreme doughnut. I mean, it’s the reason they are famous. Well now I know why, it’s SPECTACULAR. I honestly do not know how to give a detailed description of it but its just great. Really sweet as well. I loved it.

  • Orignal oreo – Oreo lover for life! Yeah, that’s me! It was my favourite doughnut out of the box. It had a nice and creamy Oreo filling in it so when you take a bite, it unveils delicious Oreo cream. It also had broken Oreo pieces on the top which added a nice delicious crunch to the doughnut.

  • Red velvet cake – This was honestly my sister’s choice. She totally loved it but I on the other hand wasn’t really a big fan of it. It was nice but just not for me.

  • Strawberry cheese cake – The strawberry cheesecake was just as delicious as the rest of the doughnuts. Just like the Oreo doughnut, it had a cream filling but it was strawberry based this time around. It didn’t have a very pronounced/harsh strawberry taste which didn’t really turn out badly because the doughnut was yummy regardless.

General Review

To be very honest with you all, going into Krispy kreme I went in prepared for disappointment. This is because I’ve read countless reviews and blog posts on how their doughnuts are just diabetes waiting to happen. I expected the doughnuts to be all sugar and no quality at all. To my surprise I actually really enjoyed it. It was a quite sweet but not in a distasteful way. If you’re a sweet tooth like me you’d definitely enjoy it. If you’re not that into sugar I would advice you go for the coconut ring, red velvet cake or crunchy peanut butter flavours. But one thing is for sure, they really do sell the most quality doughnuts I have ever tried and I am really really looking forward to their store opening here in Abuja, hopefully I get an exclusive launch invite…lol.

Ann’s Restaurant and Bar ~ Good vibes this way

Last week my younger sister turned 18 and we wanted to have a little family dinner to celebrate. Before settling for Ann’s restaurant and bar we had made of list of places, cuisine and a budget as well. We chose Ann’s restaurant and bar because it had great ambience, great food, good vibes as well as affordable pricing. The restaurant is located at No 36 Gana street, Abuja, Nigeria.

Here’s the full look at our experience at the restaurant!

Restaurant Ambience

The restaurant interior was absolutely lovely! It had calm and very classy vibe. The restaurant was beautifully fitted with orange toned lights that really pop out the subtle, earth toned furnitures. The restaurant features an indoor and outdoor sitting area. I didn’t check out much of the bar and outdoor area because we were neither drinking nor smoking. The restaurant had a few private corners that you can have private conversations which I found very thoughtful because it was all in an open space but you can have your secluded time as well. I didn’t take too many pictures of the indoor space because it was in the evening and the restaurant was a bit busy so I didn’t want to be all up in peoples faces taking pictures. I really loved the earth toned colours and beautiful lights (I am a sucker for good lighting).

The food

The restaurant serves a unique variety of dishes ranging from rice, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, salads and so much more. We ordered the following ;

Chicken strips – NGN2,000

AMAZING!!! That’s the only word for these chicken strips. I would totally have it over and over again. Just as it looks, it had a crunchy crust but was soft and tender on the inside. It was served quite hot so when you take a bite it unveils a steamy hot, juicy chicken on the inside. It came along with a mayo dipping, which wasn’t really spectacular but it was nice and made a lovely pairing with the chicken strips.

Signature Rice (2 portions) – NGN6,000

The Ann’s signature rice was so delicious we had to order an extra plate. A portion costs N3,000 which I found quite affordable because it was packed with many rich ingredients. It had, shrimps, beef, egg and a mix of different vegetables. The rice and vegetables weren’t overcooked which I absolutely loved because I really hate overcooked rice/vegetables.

Teriyaki chicken – NGN2,000

When the teriyaki chicken was served I honestly thought it was burnt and it wouldn’t taste nice but to my surprise it was actually nice. It didn’t beat the chicken strips for me but I still liked it regardless. The portion of the chicken is actually quite much and can serve two people. The chicken was so tender I was starting to think was lamb meat. It wasn’t really spicy or overly seasoned it was just nice.

Prawn fried rice – NGN3,400

Just like the signature rice, the prawn rice wasn’t overcooked and so were the vegetables. They honestly weren’t selfish with the amount of prawns in the rice. It was quite packed with enough ingredients as well.

Ann’s special chicken (with fried rice)NGN3,500

This meal was quite satisfactory but I personally feel like there’s nothing really special about it. The chicken was adequately spiced and tender. The fried rice tasted just like it’s other rice counterparts, but without any seafood or beef. The sauce on the side was just ok.

The drinks

Ann’s restaurant hands down has the most affordable and tasty non-alcoholic drinks I’ve seen in an Abuja restaurant. The Oreo milkshake was delicious, creamy and thick + it had ACTUAL OREOS in it. I have been to couple of places in Abuja where they serve Oreo milkshakes without any Oreos TRAGIC! The fruit punch was a combination of pineapple, watermelon, apple, banana and orange juice. I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it. The strawberry extreme was a combination of strawberry, milk, orange juice and lime. I tried all the drinks and I totally loved them all.

General review

My overall experience at Ann’s was quite pleasant. I definitely enjoyed the food, the ambience was great and their staff were quite delightful as well. I would definitely visit again most especially to eat their signature rice and chicken strips. There are however somethings I’d like to share as additional information for my readers. One of them is that the restaurant has very limited parking space. Also, they have no dessert on their menu which is quite heartbreaking for someone like me who has a sweet tooth.
