Bleu café is a nice cozy spot famously owned by Chef Ro (Umeeta Rabiu). It is a food and pastry cafe that sprung up during the Covid-19 Lockdown in 2020. It started off as an online cafe and eventually launched into a walk-in/sit down space. It was actually exciting and a proud moment to see that a fellow female food blogger had launched a space of her own and i looked forward to checking it out but for one reason or the other i never visited until 2022. This was partly because there was a lot of hype surrounding the place and i wanted it to die down a little before visiting.
Bleu Café is located at 16 Bangui street Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. I stopped by for a quick bite with a friend and this was my experience.
Ambience
The café is made up of quite a number of see through glass windows which makes it well lit and beautiful. The space is very cozy and simple. It was very neat and tidy and it gives off a subtle and calm vibe. At the time i visited, it was just me in the café and that gave me a lot of time to really analyze the space. The decor style of the café is quite unique and the colors fused in perfectly. The one thing that felt a bit out of place was the wall mounted chair with the LED lights, which serves as a picture spot i guess. I feel like it was put there in a bid to fit in with the current insta trends which was unnecessary because the space already had its own simple & vintage vibe.

Menu
The cafe’s menu is quite packed with a lot of english and Italian food options. They offer quite the variety of food and drink options and the pricing is affordable.

Food & Drink
I wanted something sweet and satisfying for brunch so i opted for the dutch baby pancakes and strawberry Frappe. While my friend just ordered a slice of red velvet cake.
Dutch baby pancakes – NGN4,000
For those who do not already know, Dutch baby pancakes are a unique style of oven baked pancakes as opposed to the usual fried one. The pancakes took about 30minutes to be served because it was made fresh. It was served in a mini cast iron skillet pan with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with bananas and strawberries, a sprinkle of powdered sugar and syrup. The pancake was soft with a nice texture and it wasn’t too sweet. The bananas and strawberries also made a fine pairing with the pancakes. However, there was one problem. The quality of ice cream used was very poor. As a result of the poor quality of the ice cream, the ice cream separated from the sugar components at the feel of heat. This made the pancakes soak in pool of sugar and melted ice that eventually made it soggy. By the time i got to the end, it was dutch baby pancakes, sugar, water and a hint of cream.

Red velvet cake – NGN2,500
The cake slice was really nice. It was moist, creamy and rich. Although i would say it’s a bit small for the price.

Strawberry Frappe – NGN3,500
I was excited to try the strawberry Frappe because it was something different from what i am used to ordering at cafe’s. The frappe was served and it was cute but it ended up being cute with no context. The taste was a bit bland. It was neither sweet nor tasteless and i could only taste just a hint of coffee and strawberry flavor in it. The rest of it was ice and vibes. I felt like it had a lot of potential to be a great drink but it wasn’t.

TOTAL BILL – NGN10,212 (including VAT & service charge)
General Review
Bleu café is a nice and cozy spot fit for dine in. It’s also a nice place to cool off and probably get some work done. However, the food wasn’t really great for me which left me disappointed because i expected a certain level of culinary expertise coming from such an establishment. I honestly thought the food will steal my heart and i would be hooked for life but it didn’t. The service was ok, at first the waitress was a bit hostile but subsequently loosened up.
I have had a couple of people reach out to me ever since i posted a reel on Instagram about their own similar experiences and some even worse. So i’m really curious to know. Have you visited Bleu café? Did you have a great experience with the food and service? Please do not hesitate to share.
Xoxo…
